Going to miss the analog display from the f80. Hopefully the M versions of this display are strictly performance without all the entertainment bs.

Man, I'm happy to have my 2018 G30 with HUD and round digital display in the "old fashion" way. All info I need in a fast clear way.

I find the new look is just too much and too mixed up. Looks like someone wanted just too much.

I love analog speedo and tach too, but keep in mind when this car goes on sale as a pre-owned vehicle in 2024+ those analog dials will look really outdated and may affect the resale value.

Completely agree with this, I love the way older BMWs look and drive! But I look forward and embrace to newer BMW's progress and technology. Loving the look of these new digital dials!

Clustered cluster. Not a fan, but will (have to) get used to it. Unfortunately, BMW had to move this direction because of the competition.

Hopefully, digital analog displays will be an option in the future.

The way the digital tach is shaped to be non-circular is odd. I imagine that the movement of the digital needle will be weird, and will drive someone with ocd crazy.

So, is it possible to have a standard digital gauge... u know, one where the actual tachometer revs in the correct direction? Audi pulled this one faaaaar better.

Dash gauges have nothing to do with resale value.

I think BMW keeps their dashboard very clean and simple. I see what other manufacturers are doing and it is just information overload with tons and tons of buttons everywhere and they just look totally over done and totally confusing.

There is definitely a fine line of what is just too much for drivers of different ages and generations to take on while they should be simply focusing on the task ahead and that means driving.

We just recently test drove a 2019 X4 with the new large HD touchscreen, it worked amazingly easy. That will be a nice addition and I think everyone will like that now that young and older generations are use to their touchscreen mobile devices.
You’ve started off by saying there’s too much driver distraction and I fully agree, yet you finish off by saying the new touchscreens are a nice addition.

What’s interesting is that it is now illegal (here in the UK at least) to use your mobile phone whilst driving, even while stopped at lights, yet you appear to be allowed to use a touchscreen media system... I find this totally bizarre as there is little difference between using one or the other!!

Personally I only ever use the iDrive dial to scroll & select from the menus as I’ve always found using a touchscreen while driving to be a total distraction. While on the move it can be difficult to actually touch the small area of screen you need to touch to select your option. I honestly believe the actual touchscreen function should only be active while the car is stationary! Using the rotary control is far safer

I’m just hoping it’ll be configurable to show a simple display for those who want it! And on top of that, I really hope whatever dash we choose from the options on offer remains as default when we next get in and push the start button (unlike BMW’s current drive mode selector which defaults back to weak throttle, light steering comfort mode)

So we get a lovely new hi-def central media screen, but all the info is duplicated onto the digital speedo & tacho dials..... why??

I sure hope the basic semi-digital display is standard fit so I can save some cash for other more useful options!!

i wonder if they will even have a non digital version. The cheapest 2018 accord has an LCD in there now... and its probably cheaper to put an LCD there than a mechanical unit as it is. less skus, less moving parts, weighs less. software is already written anyway.

Just horrible. Too much info on one little screen. It makes me wonder if the next step in this "evolution" is to remove the NAV screen completely and have everything display in front of you. I hope not.

Same here. I love a physical sweeping needle.
I agree. I hope there's a mode that has a classic view that is semi pleasing

I like the new center console design and bigger center screen. But I would rather have mechanical dial. Because when I drive for fun, I would turn off all screens (they are still very useful when I was from A to B), and I like there is an option for me to do that in my car

I can't believe they found it so important to have the album artwork for the music you're playing in front of your eyes while driving. So for an entire album- you're having the cover of the album showing where you're traditionally looking for info about wha the car is doing.

I'm a fan of technology for the positives it had brung but this is asinine to prioritize and place there.

Furthermore- the Speedo and Tach are at the far edges of the dash now- so not as easy to glance at. Wild. Can't believe we haven't seen an option for round speedo and tach from them yet.

I do really like the center air vent stack- reminds me of cool 60s designs.

I really hope not.

I have the virtual cockpit in my audi, and I'd still rather look at the much larger center screen than the one in the gauge pod (which I don't even display the map on, I basically have it look like an old fashioned one).

The Audi TT has it where everything is on the gauge cluster, and looking at the tiny screen for a map behind your steering wheel, downwards is probably dangerous.

It's stupid to have there but thankfully customizeable. I've known people who want the album artwork in front of them all the time.
