As a reference, our stock 116i had 104 kW at the rear hubs.

Have a look at the golfs losses , 27%!?

MK7 GTi was on my shopping list before I ordered my M135i. Cracking car, looks great, but not in the same class as the BMWs (125i or 135i).

Plus, on equivalent spec there was pretty much zero difference in cost; almost no discount from VW, yet a total of £5k off the BMW. No brainer!!!

not sure about USA or EURO, but here in OZ (syd), golf is like every 4th car on the road (not all GTi of coz)

That makes even less sense. With a transverse engine, FWD and no hypoid gears in the driveline, it should have even less power loss in the driveline than the BMW. More than 15% loss is simply not realistic.

I guess your right , the calibration on this dyno must be off to be displaying such high drivetrain losses

Your 116i with 104kw at the wheels is impressive! , that means your making about 120kw at the fly-wheel if we take losses at 15% , how do you fair against a cooper S?

Since the power was measured at the hubs, not against rollers, the loss is surely less than 15 percent on our car. I have driven against a few Coopers S, but they have always been further tuned. They usually pull away rather easily on the straights. I did however fight evenly with a heavily tuned Cooper S Works at autoX, since he had problems getting his power down, and plenty of turbo lag.

A 128i would have drawn some of the M135i buyers into the 128i. On the other hand, not offering the 128i will pull a lot of 125i prospects into the Golf as from now. So, as we debate, BMW is running some scenarios to check what to do with this new GTI offering...
So here's an easy anwser: You chip the 125i to the 128i power? Wow so difficult.

Most people don't want to void the warranty of their cars by installing some hillbilly tuning box. Is that so hard to understand? Also, if the goal was to have a faster car than the GTI, using a tuning box is just utterly retarded. Those with GTIs can just do the exact same thing. Ugh, don't even replay. You're daft.

Some better tyres (non rft) might be a good alternative too

Obviously you have not heard of the M performance power kit. That must be hard to understand..

And guess what, it doesn't void the warranty .
