Rust on G42 after 1500 miles???

Guys, please check and let me know if its something I only have or maybe you also noticed something similar.

I went for a car wash and after rinsing and drying everything I noticed weird spots on trunk lid and later today I noticed one spot on the roof.

Spots look like slightly whitened area. It also looks like there's tiny air pocket underneath the clear coat. One of such spots, right in the center of trunk lid has weird color that looks like RUST.

OMG, what? The car has just passed 1500 on the odometer (3 mo old). I can clearly confirm that nothing hit the trunk lid (like stone or any other object that might have chipped the clear coat - it is absolutely intact.

Is it only me or have anybody noticed something similar and what did that resulted in?

thats not rust. either water spot baked in the sun or bird poop. Not gonna be fun taking it out either way.

Good news is, you got a 12 year rust warranty.

If it's actually rust, just bring it to the dealer.

If it's not, just wipe it off or have someone detail it.

Not rust, will need to be polished or possible paint defect.

Guys, thanks for cheering up. I put the car to garage for now. I may contact the dealer to check that. At least they might buff things out and see if there's any real alarm.

Another LEMON in 12 months will be too much.

I got some spots on the roof of my old Z4m from tree sap that looked exactly like that. Within a year or two, they were completely gone. It was bizarre.

That’s a bird bomb that etched into the clearcoat. You’ll need to polish it out.

Did you or anyone have any success claiming rust under warranty?

My F25 stated showing clear signs of rust after 18mo of ownership (got it new).
Even while on factory bumper-2-bumper warranty BMW ignored my request for warranty claim

Why would you throw the word "lemon" around? This is damaged paint by you going about your daily business. Nothing to worry about. You can likely buff that out, or if it's etched into the paint, lightly sand it.

I had a friend who successfully claimed it, the paint started bubbling in certain spots.

Eventually they repainted the entire panels of the affected areas.

You need to bribe the SA

I actually had something that looked similar to your end result but I did not have that progression. I found it within the first two weeks of owning mine, it was all over the car. I believe they wet sanded it and it came out.

Wow, that's exactly my thing!

I actually have a small update - polishing it with something ultra fine like Meguire's 21032 or something similar buffs it out. I tried it locally on couple spots with microfiber and super gentle buffing, it went away.

Anyways, what the hell is that in the first place? I had different cars with different paints but that is by far spookiest thing on a 3 months old car.

I actually did it. I think I might need to buff entire trunk lid to even the local buffing zones where I tried polishing

so far I literally lightly polished it with Maguire's scratchX 2.0 G10307. I just lightly buffed it with microfiber towel. But I want to even the surface by polishing entire trunk lid with something "more polish related" like Meguire's Polish 20532.

Do you have the same issue?

I had that happen to me with bird poop on one of my old 3 series. The clear coat looked raised/distorted and it eventually resolved itself.

I'm glad it worked out for you. I work at a body shop and several people told me it was water droplets that fell onto the paint in between layers of paint/clearcoat. So I was actually really worried that they would have to repaint it. However, it came out pretty easily, only took them a few hours. I had over a hundred of them all over my car.
