Not to mention I was making fun of an electric truck and you were so insulted about your own choice you felt the need to bring up a different truck that you overpaid for? I don't understand why you're upset about something I wasn't even talking about. Saying a $70k F150 is middle of the road. How out of touch are you? https://shop.ford.com/configure/f150/model/customize |

TBH I think it differs depending where you are. Transaction prices here on F150's are indeed well into the 70's. Which is just fucking amazing really.

Just going on his profile which says CO, so I'm assuming Colorado, in the states. I'm not mad or upset, I think sometimes people at the upper levels of income lose touch with normal people. I'm right in the middle, I make a bit more than the average person, but I also don't make big bank like some of the guys here. |

my point is, trucks arent cheap. and a 70k truck like the rivian isnt the most expensive option. hell, with the tax credits, its one of the cheaper options with the features you get in it. fwiw, i also paid below MSRP, both the $67k MSRP of the truck when i ordered and the updated MSRP of 71k when it showed up. Still was 70k otd. Quote:
I'll admit, f150s tend to be a little more than the other brands, but GM/Ram are not far behind them. Equally optioned (minus the highway hands free) to my f150 Ram was $69k and GM was 70k.

Speaking of prices, I was recently looking at the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon with the diesel... started at $49k, built the way I wanted was $64k. Then add another $20k+ for better wheels, ties, suspension, rear rack for roof top tent, etc and you've quickly got yourself a overland setup that's creeping towards that 100k mark. You'll never want to take anywhere because of what you have invested into it.
But... $64k for a Jeep... a JEEP! Granted that has options like drivers assist and such, but still, its a tin can on wheels. Americas "need" for trucks has inflated the price of them. Everyone thinks you NEED a full size truck to pull anything, to go on anything thats not asphalt of concrete, or to drive in the winter. Visit many other parts of the world and full size trucks are rare. I grew up with trucks and I do understand the convenience of them, but I fell they have been price gouging us for years.

i'll agree with you there. A cayman/boxster is more status symbol that a 90k truck. you don't have to make sacrifices with a truck or big sedan.

The people driving $80k trucks, are also likely the people that have Home Depot/Lowes delivered and have someone else taking care of their landscaping (like we do).

If I didn't have the trailer I would totally have an F150 and if I could actually go out and buy one for $70k I would strongly consider a Rivian. I actually had an F150 when I had a smaller trailer, but we got a bigger one at some point and it was just too much for our F150. |

Now, the overpowered trucks fitted out like Cadillacs are absolutely a status symbol...in the the exact same way.

100%. Luxury trucks are mostly for grocery shopping and an occasional family trip (although most luxury truck owners also tend to own a Tahoe).

Looks cool but falls short of true pick up truck duties: towing long distance, going off-road where there isn't going to be a charging station, driving through bad storms where there will be a high chance of a power outage, long term reliability, etc.
I mean I'm all for EVs but I certainly am not going to buy this first generation of EVs that have questionable durability in the long term. Once the second generation rolls around (and the infrastructure hopefully has developed) I will definitely be looking at an EV. |

Y'all complaining about the price of the R1T but GM just dropped a new Canyon for 2023 (midsize truck) AT4X Edition 1 at a whopping $63,995 before freight charge...

The Powerboost engines (F-150 Hybrid) only start in the Limited trim so base cost is $81k (USD) before any other options. My boss picked one up and my jaw dropped after looking up the pricing.

Congrats OP. Not a truck person myself, but if I had to get one this would be it.
I'm curious about the Rivian's actual usability though. Going away with the family to some rural spot or ski trip for the weekend seems out of question with EVs at the moment.

I got friends that drive their model 3 from Denver up to WP and back, I'm sure there are many more. In Whistler, BC, there were tons and tons of Model Ss, most driven from Vancouver area. Plenty of places where this would work just fine, like Sacramento to Tahoe, etc.
