I'm getting the warm and fuzzies for my '23 BRZ now....

EDIT: Meant to say I'm NOT getting the warm and fuzzies.

It's all over Facebook groups and the forums. We've been trying to get the press on it the last week or more, looks like they finally are.

Imagine believing a subaru engine isn't gonna blow up. What kind of marketing convinced people this was a good platform? Toyota isn't exactly at the forefront of making powerful engines but I'd rather have an ancient 2zz in here than that POS subie motor.

Never again.

Subaru probably makes the worst engines of any automaker. As I have said before I am blown away by how popular these cars are in the USA but then again a lot of Americans buy Nissans.

I never had a single problem with my first gen from new to 38k miles. Didn't even burn oil like some complained of. And many people don't, but we all know, forums/social media tend to make things seem much more prevalent than they are. For example, so far there are less than 10 cases of this between Japan and the US for thousands of cars sold.

My 135i had more problems from 26k to 32k miles of ownership than almost all other vehicles I've had combined since 16. And I'm 40.

Doesn't matter. Car comes with a 1 year NASA membership and 1 free trackday. The car is constantly marketed on track, but yet they denied warranty on a blown engine because the car frequented the track...? All they did was look the dude up on social media, never looked at the car. Slime ball move all the way around. "Our vehicles are the most reliable, but only if you drive them like Grandma and have 0 fun in them."

I got an ad for one today on FB, GR86 was on the track in the picture. I noticed there were over 100 comments on the image (which is weird for a sponsored ad), and almost every single one of them was something along the lines of "Oh but it'll void your warranty. What a joke company." Toyota has to be loving this bad PR.

Oh I agree, it's a complete dick move. Especially when you consider Toyota UK WILL cover track use on the GR cars (Yaris, GR86, GR Supra).

But only Toyota offers the NASA membership/track day, Subaru doesn't.

I will probably putter around with it until all this gets sorted out. Of course it's still 4 weeks out from delivery, so I'm assuming it's got to be on a boat by now. Especially since it has another day at the port to have the STi short throw shifter installed once it lands on US soil.

I didn't buy it with the intention of being a track toy. I figured I might do 1-2 and maybe an occasional AutoX. Even with a dedicated track car, you spend a lot of time in the garage making sure stuff is where it should be. And then it's expensive and time consuming.

I've already been down that road.

First thing is it's getting ceramic coated and ceramic window tint for heat rejection. Then, I've already got all my suspension parts for it. Going to order wheels/tires shortly. Then a catback and OEM Audio upgrade.

Then leave it alone and enjoy it.

Same marketing issues that other manufactures used. Marketing materials showing cars on track, yet the warranty does not cover any track usage.

I have heard of somewhat the same issue, where Service Advisors at dealers heard of or saw cars participating at Autocrosses and flagged the cars to deny warranty.

Supposed to be here Thursday not instead of the 29th.

So I've already picked up the duckbill spoiler and it's scheduled for ceramic coating and window tint next week. I'm not doing any PPF because it's really going to be in the garage most of the time and not see the track.

Then hopefully in a few weeks my friend's schedule will ease up and we will have access to his friend's lift to install the custom 8th gen FA 500s.

And now they bumped it to next week.

Apparently there is a shortage of drivers at the depot where the train drops them off.........I'm assuming Dallas? But don't know for sure.

almost every company denies warranty work if they know youve been tracking. Would you expect insurance to cover you if you crash on the track?

its why i always get a kick out of people with brand new cars on 7 year loans at the track. If you cant afford to fix a catastrophic failure, you cant afford to track the car.

Same goes for people that tune their brand new cars then try to take their cars in for warranty work when something goes kaboom.

GM says to track the car and it's covered under warranty.

You are correct though, you need to figure in track costs and any way you do it, you need money floating around for whatever may happen and tires, brakes, fluid changes and so on.

People always ask what I've modded on my car. Virtually nothing, side-skirts to look cool, a factory receiver so I can put my bike rack on, lol. This car doesn't need mods to go fast around a track. You either buy a car made for the track, or you mod the hell out of something else and realize it won't be covered due to the mods.

Gm has some caveats to it though. like it has to have come with a track prepped package, cant be a formal track event, cant be a track event for points or prizes, cant be racing, etc. Its a lot of extra words to say "track vehicle at your own risk."

This reminds me of when I detonated the diff in my '01 S2000. I told the service manager straight away that I was regularly dumping and side-stepping the clutch. He, in turn, told the DM, and the warranty claim was denied...until I brought in the sales brochure, touting the 5-second 0-60 time, and the magazine that said it was impossible without side-stepping the clutch. In fact, the 0-60 was more like 9 seconds if driven "properly", and Honda had used the 5-second time to SELL the car, and therefore it was absolutely within warranty to side-step the clutch. They paid the claim. I sold the car.

As far as the BRZ, it never interested me.

Lastly, My '05 EJ25 saw 117 passes at the track and at least double that on the street before I sold it. The car was just basic stage 2 with a pro tune, has 160K on the motor at present, and has only had an oil-feed turbo line issue, nothing else.

'04/'05 EJ25 was a fantastic engine. What the hell they did to them after that I have no earthly idea.

The issue many have, and I agree. It's bullshit to advertise a car as track ready, pay for a NASA membership and track day, then go "you abused" the car.

That is LITERALLY what Toyota is doing.

I think some of you fail to realize not everyone makes more in a year than the average person makes in 20.

5K clutch dump was the only way to get a WRX to the claimed 0-60, they were basically using the engine as a flywheel with AWD.

It's one of the reasons I didn't keep my WRX, opting for the STi instead, it had a bulletproof trans.
