Fitting smaller rims on BMW F20 120d

Hello,

I am owner of 2015 F20 (120d). My car came with 18 inch wheels on which I installed brand new tyres - Michelin Pilot Sport 4: 225/40 ZR18 (front) and 245/35 ZR18 (rear). I want to know if I can fit smaller size rims and tyres (winter ones; mainly because I want to drive my car in the winter and the price of the rear winter tyres of my rims now is ridiculous). I looked at rims style 411 16 inches (ET40) and I was wondering if they would fit on the car?

P.S. I am relatively new to the forum and will be more than happy if someone redirects me to "same" or relevant forum discussion! Thank you in advance!

Hello.

Yes, you can use rims smaller than 18 inches (unless you have M Performance accessory brakes installed). Brakes are the limit: if you have basic brakes you can use 16 inch rims like the style you mentioned, but if you have M Sport brakes 17 inches is the smallest rim size (380 or 381 styles for example). BMW wheels and tyres configurators like https://www.bmw.co.uk/en/topics/owne...and-tyres.html are currently down, but when/if they are up again you can use one as well.

Thank you very much for the information! I will give a look on the website once they fix it.

Hi & Welcome

You can check the approved wheels sizes here:
https://www.wheel-size.com/size/bmw/...-120d-eudm-188

I recommend you to check the prices of the 17' as well, you will have slightly more grip for almost the same price.
