There are two famous sounds from this engine (both appear defeated by Andoni.F20 ):
Regarding the squeak I guess I hear it from mine. Never even thought of worrying. Not even sure I do hear it, but somehow I guess so. |

For the sound of the first video, you right it come from the turbo heat shield, I will tight the bolts. But for the squeak it look like it's coming from the Accessory belt. I'm a little bit worried about it. |

Thanks for clearing my doubts about alternator, by the way: it does/can work when the car stands with the engine running, of course! The car once told me the opposite: "The battery is weak, set off immediately!". That made me wonder. You know their "energy recuperation" story. On the one hand, does the brake energy recuperation only work when coasting in a gear (engine braking)? Saving only the driving wheels brakes. Why did they advertise it as a (part of the) new technology then? On the other hand, they appear to suggest the alternator is "detachable" (despite the belt drive?) to reduce the engine burden. And it does make sense when you stop the engine (to ease the start). Just for example. There was a similar thread (a different engine): https://f20.1addicts.com/forums/show....php?t=1335471. DomMuc should know. |

Hi, I've record a video of the rattle sound
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNyzd0JqspI So it come from the turbo. But it's not the bolts. It look like there is a missing clamp at the bottom where it met the exhaust. Do you know how can I fix this ? Thanks. |

From the video it still looks like the suggested method of slightly deforming the heat shield by hand should not be overlooked.
Otherwise you might want to look underneath (there's some "vibration absorber", #7, that might be failing): https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_5017. Addressing a service could help as well. |
