F20 Misfire
Hi All,
I've got a 2014 F20 118i (with the 1.6l N13 engine) at just under 100k miles. I'm having some odd issues and my garage is a bit stumped, so thought I'd ask the collective wisdom. Problems started with a misfire causing a drivetrain warning and quite a lot of vibration. My local indie diagnosed a leaking rocker gasket which had covered a spark plug and coil pack in oil. Replaced gasket, all the plugs (needed doing anyway) and the coil pack. Car ran beautifully for a few days then the misfire returned when I had to rev the engine dropping to second gear on a steep ramp up a hill. Diagnostics returned a whole load of fault codes relating to multiple cylinders, so my garage sent the ECU off for testing on the grounds that the initial coil pack failure might have overloaded it. However, the ECU has tested fine - auto electricians say they could refurb it regardless that it's passed the test but I'm cautious of just working my way round the engine bay progressively replacing expensive bits until we find whatever the problem is. My garage is now off to check the wiring between the ECU and the coil packs for continuity, but any other ideas would be very much appreciated. Timing chain was changed in 2022 (before I bought it) so hopefully that's not the culprit. Thanks! |

I had a similar issue and the valve cover had a small crack. Plus the HPFP was not building enough pressure.
Try using a fog machine if you have and look for leaks |
