Car for sale cheap, has a Drivetrain fault message. But the owner says drives fine.

Any ideas what kind of problem could be expected if I take the risk?

Could be hear all day if we start to guess only way to know is an obd tester could be anyfing would not buy if you can’t get a tester on before Purchase

The guy i sold it to changed the vanos. The timing chain timing was wrong so he timed it and put in a update for the timing chain software? He fixed it for about 700 dollars. So do not kiss a tree in 60km/h and claim insurance.

This is what another poster found out seems like the 120408 came on because of 130108 which could mean the either the chain has stretched or out of timing or the vanos solenoid is defective so i would check that out first
