Her weight, unhealthy lifestyle, and the fact that her blood pressure was 190/136 monday night. Her pulse was 181. She's lucky she didn't have a stroke. They had to shock her heart at one point. It's just been a rough week.

It's been a HELL of a week.

I hear you on that. I hope she's doing better and it was a wake up call. Our friend suddenly died of a massive heart attack yesterday. He was 46. His triglycerides were in the 600's and hadn't take it seriously enough. He and his high school sweetheart had just reunited 2 years ago and gotten married April 30.

Oh my god. That's terrible. I am so sorry for your loss.

In 2008, my mom's boyfriend died of a heart attack at 51. People think these things happen to older people, but they don't.

My sister and I got into it yesterday since I feel I'm the only one in the family with a sense of urgency about this. She's stressing me out and I don't want to be an only child.

I don't know. I have never seen an overweight person on cocaine or meth, so it can't be either of those. I really don't know.

I have! I'm not saying your sister is, but users come in all shapes and sizes……especially those who aren't transient, eat 3+ square meals a day and/or even hold down some sort of job.

Here's a shocker to get back on track....surgeon asked me out a second date.

Shocked the hell out of me. Haven't spoken to him in over two weeks.

I can relate here. I had a heart attack and learned I was diabetic at 47. Let's just say that I definitely took it seriously.

Ended up going from 245lbs (in reality probably more) to 175lbs and 12 years later at 60, I am healthier than I was in my 30's.

Sadly I seem to be an exception for people who take this shit seriously. Bottom line it is I wanted to be able to see my girls grow up.

Diet change and excersize I'm assuming?

This regular implementation of the above stated is key. So many sedentary people out there. It doesn't take much to find healthy homeostasis.

Yep, I generally hate the word diet, as it tends to imply something temporary. But your usage is pretty much spot on.

Changing what/how I eat, don't drink my calories and lots of walking (have been averaging over 19K steps a day this summer).

I have gained during COVID and my injury. I'm actually excited to get surgery in 3 weeks so I can walk again.
I used to do 12-15k per day at work. Currently I am at 5k steps in pain everyday and up 20 pounds.
Eating out is my vice and as we all know theres a lot of salt when dining out

You're right, people don't take it seriously. I don't think it's intentional on how we take life for granted because I think we can't imagine that in a few hours or tomorrow would be our last day.

Congrats to you on your lifestyle changes and being healthy for your kids. It takes a lot but it's so worth it.

The amount of sodium in everything is insane. Even Honey Nut Cheerios are 11% sodium per serving! I’m on the dash diet which only allows for sodium to be a 5% or less per serving……my sodium levels are fine, but I’m still following it to a T. Grocery shopping at first was so frustrating. It’s amazing just how loaded everything is with salt. Bowl of soup? Pass. Even the low sodium ones range in the 30% mark. Death sentence in the making.
