WTF did they do to the front???

They got the new X5 niam, new Z4 OK, new 7 very nice, the new 5 sweet!

The 1M Wicked!!!

Why? Why BMW? Why must you always fuck up one sooooo bad?

I like the comment from Jalopnik:
"Unlike the new 3 Series, it looks a great deal like our Aunt Florence, who also looks like one of those birds from the game about angry birds. I think it's called Perturbed Poultry."

Did they really have to succumb and put the turn signals in the mirrors?

Really BMW? Just like Acura, VW, Merc and every other???

The BMW turn signal on the fenders always evolved and yet remained elegant.

God help us

I'd definitely drive this car around on Halloween night just scare to the kids & adults obviously.

The front end has the down syndrome look to it...

The X1 hasn't grown up me, that's still fugly and this is gonna be the same.

At least on UK roads you dont see many X1s but this is gonna obviously sell loads regardless.

I'm gonna have to upgrade to a 335 I think so I can speed away from the new 1er.

Ok, to all the judges out there that are so eager to judge so fast.
Didn't you really learn in all those years of new models coming that the car should be seen in the metal for the brain to make up a true opinion?
I want to see it in first person first (although oh the photos it does look weird) and then I'll know what I think. Some cars can be extremely deceiving on photos!

Wow, this is the final straw BMW! Whoever approves these designs should be shot and then fired. Looks like I'll be keeping my E46 M3 forever.

the front now reminds me of a similar deal they had on the E46 Compact. No headlamps or anything next to grille looks really weird. And no tuning will fix that. Watch it sell OK in European capitals where badge is needed and space is at premium, but forget about this being a hit. Design wise it's a flop and I cant see myself learning to like it - however i reserve final judgement for real life pics (e90 in pics looked worse than in real life so.. open mind and all).

Damn, what a Desaster early in the morning... I was so hopeful when the F20 drives around with the camo. And then that shock ! Looks like the old 7-Series from Chris Bangle was shrinked. UGLY Front, UGLY End and in between nothing better. How Gould this happen ? Only the Interior is up the current lovely BMW Style.

I fear an UGLY 3-Series now ....

spent a good amount of time comparing it to the old 1er 5door and im actually seeing some improvement. the side profile looks good. no more pot belly and the flame sufacing looks good. the door handles are also better placed and the more I look at the headlights, especially compared to the e82, the better they get. I think the biggest issue is the front bumper. its horrible! the way it slants down and then goes flat give the front of the car a wierd shape from the side profile. seeing how the coupe and //M will be get new bumpers there is still hope!

BMW, what are you thinking! I seriously hope the 2 series and 3 series don't look like this. I may have to questions my loyalty to the BMW brand

I do understand the '2 Originals' campaign finally. the two below look identical, with one difference though: the guy on the right is the chick-magnet.

EU Pedestrian legislation has changed car design and the 1er conforms to the latest and future legislation.

The 1er for BMW is a Compact car, and thus in europe you can have a 116i just as later we will get a 135i Sporthatch. If that is what you term "econobox" in the US then you have no worries - The 1er Sporthatch will not be coming to North America. I like the car even though I seen it years ago.

What I like about it is that it now showcases identity. In a segment where everyone looks to the benchmark "VW Golf" BMW designers went another route. In reality the car is striking and really brings out all the visible design features in Titanium Silver and lighter metallics. I like the headlights because they are influenced by camera lenses and of course they resort to the latest LED technology. The interior is very premium - quality now is on a higher level and the large fixed screen gives a Premium feel from the larger 6er - The 3er also receives the same idea. Material quality now uses grained high quality plastics and of course leg and head room is much improved for rear passengers. The rear of the car is simple evolutionary design from the E87. BMW 1er (F20) was designed back in 2006/2007.

To make an informed decision you have to see the car for itself.
Yeah I'm sure that you have to see the car in person, pics often don't do it justice. I must say, the sport version seem to look somewhat better, I don't like the urban. About the VW Golf being a benchmark, a regular Golf VI looks boring, but I really like the GTI and R, not overdone but deffo not boring imo and to me looks better than the F20. But then again, in person and with an M sports package it might not look that bad. Wonder what the new Audi A3 will look like, as I think biggest competition will come from that car. Looking at the new A6, Audi doesn't change their designs that much.

I hope the new 3 series will look much like the F10 5 series and not the new 1. I like the new 5 a lot, great looking car imo!

It looks like BMW made a common mistake here. They're trying to rebrand the 1 series instead of being a baby BMW to being a "hip" "urban" "young" "piss your parents off" car. This line of thinking has never worked in the history of the auto industry and has resulted in some of the worst vehicles on the face of the planet.

To sum this up BMW is trying to sell to young people having nobody working there that has any clue about young people. The original 1 series hatch to coupe upgrade is a perfect example of how a simple attractive design can be wildly popular. Instead of doing the thing that BMW is good at doing, they have tried to make a VW golf.

This out of touch junk is exactaly the kind of thing that would be crapped out if you hired a semi-truck designer or helicopter manufacturer to design a car. This crap is what happens when BMW designs a car for people they have never met or heard of. It is disgraceful and I am ashamed it exists.

Here's a peice of advice to BMW that I learned from one of the best people I've ever worked with in the auto industry:

"Young people and your average hip folk do not want a wild car. What they want is a car that is not conservative. The difference between a wild car and one that isn't conervative is subtle and mangement often overlooks it, but a wild car is cars like the Aztek in that it is a freak, it's a weirdo. Nobody likes that. A car that is not conservative is edgy enough but not weird."

It will grow on you in time. F20 is a level better than E82 in most aspect.

Pork belly - gone
Oddly shaped headlights - gone.

Remember this is year 1 of F20, even the E90 looks plain in its first iteration.

I'm sorry, but that those cars are hideous! It looks like its been over inflated. My bro thinks it looks like its wearing a hitler moustache.

The only thing good about it is that it differentiates from the coupe better!

I thought Bangle had left?
