Ah yeah, I know I can do that but the song order in each playlist would be sorted alphabetically by: album, artist, or song name right?

I think the order will be the same as the order in the file. I usually don't use play lists. I prefer to play shuffle among all the music on the USB stick.

If you use free software such as playlist creator you can set playlists up exactly how you want them to be and that's how the idrive plays them.

I'll look into the software, thanks for the tip!

I guess that depends on the output quality (D/A-converters) from your phone. I think the sound quality when running Spotify over AUX with my old Nokia phone is pretty good.

I have a question. I've seen some pictures here and everybody seems to have a combination of an aux + usb port to use the y-cable. I only have an aux entry in my 116 ED. Does this require a different cable then?

The ed does not have usb prep. You won't be able to control it via the car...

Is my understanding

Ended up getting the y-cable. I think the quality is better than the BB Bluetooth fix. Got it here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...ls_o00_s00_i00

Sometimes the iPod connection can be a bit loose if you don't have it rested right. Other than that, great product and much cheaper than purchasing through BMW.

I'm also trying to figure this out.

I have what I think is either a 4th or 5th generation iPod that I want to just leave it in the car. Have a 2013 x3 so I believe USB should work with the white apple cable. Yet it does not. Have tried plugging in USB to car first, then connecting iPod, and other way around. Have tried soft reset on iPod. IPod displays the "Do not discconect" message but iDrive is not recognizing that it is connected. Am I missing something? Have tested USB port with iPhone so know it works.

Hate to have to waste money on a new iPod, don't want to use a USB stick, just not as convenient.

Hi all, sorry to jump the thread a little but has anyone tried using Spotify off there IPhone thru the standard USB interface? I am waiting delivery on my new F20 114i and curious if I'll be able to use my iPhone. This is my first BM so the idrive interface is totally new to me!

I have Y-cable with 6NH (standard BT/USB) and it works allright most of the time. I am a little annoyed though that apparently I can't skip a song or repeat it via steering wheel controls if I selected a playlist or album on the iPhone itself and pushed "Play" there, but maybe I'm missing something here.

Just ordered my 116i Sport, standard USB/jack so I'm looking at getting a Y cable for iPod classic.

I know that the new Fords use a similar cable and apparently you can replicate the cables job by using a normal iPod USB AND a standard 3.5mm male to male cable.

Can anyone confirm whether this works in the BMW with full iDrive functionality?

You can also skip a song with the small wheel on the right hand side set of controls (on the driving wheel) while at the same time looking at the song titles on the extended display.

Oh, the wheel doesn't work. It works only if the playlist was selected from the iDrive, otherwise the system "believes" the only track you can choose is the current one being played. When iPhone goes next, the next one is the only one. I'll check the buttons on the radio panel though, thanks.

UPD: the buttons do indeed work as intended, many thanks for that!

Hey guys, sorry to keep dragging up an old thread.

I have just ordered a 118d Sport Line. Currently debating whether or not to call the dealer back and get the extended bluetooth option after reading this thread.

One thing I have not been able to find anywhere is just a plain old list of standard inclusions vs optional equipment. If I am going to call the dealer back and get this included, I want to make sure that there is nothing else I have missed. Does anyone have access to a list of this sort of information. Back in the olden days the brochure on the car would have a list of standard equipment vs options that you could use to compare different equipment levels across the line.

Trying to work out if the interior lighting package on previous models is now standard on the 2013 as well. The brochure does not mention it anywhere!

Anyways, cheers for any help you can provide

I'm using Spotify in the car, but I simply set it to play random favourites, and play through the AUX input to the car! :-)

Had the same problem with my iPod nano from about 2006 and connecting it with the white cable on what we refer to as extended bluetooth on the 1 series. It's just not compatible back that far. Maybe try test with a newer iPod to be sure, that's how I worked out the problem with mine.

Worked fine on early 2012 cars. Go figure.
