Scratched new car front bumper :(
Hi guys,
Had this car for about 3 months, and managed to damage the front bumper, probably from parking too close to the concrete etc in car parks or something. As this is my first car, I don't have too much experience in dealing with this. I did a search for similar posts and the suggestion usually ranges from using a touch up paint from BMW / Dr. Touch up to taking the car to a repairer. Which options applies best to my case? Pictures attached. Comprehensive insurance excess is 700$ if that makes a difference. Also I have took the BMW paint protection package, again don't know if that can help me in any way in this case. I am located in Brisbane, Australia if anyone has recommendations for repair shops if I have to go that route. Thanks in advance! |

You do not need to paint the whole bumper, just the corner that is damaged. when the car is white so this is not a broblem. so the cost will be low,

asxi dont bother going through insurance. Any panel shop can do this for you cash money where the cost would be low. If you touch it up it will look better than what it is now but it will be noticeable. Not from Brissie so I couldnt recommend anyone for you. Try one of those places that specialise in small repairs.

Smart Repair
Minor damage like you show in your photos is generally repaired by companies specializing in minor cosmetic damage....so-called SMART repairs. Companies like Chips Away for example
The repair will cost around £60 I'm guessing My daughter had a similar plastic bumper repair to her SLK carried out by MB and that was only £60 Last edited by SteveC; 01-23-2014 at 01:52 AM.. |

thanks for the replies guys, appreciate it. I won't go through insurance, may try calling BMW or go to the touch up guys.
SteveC, that sounds like a very good price. I just hope i dont have to multiply that by 5 to convert it to australian pricing Will let you guys know how I go, in the meantime I will be very happy if anyone gives me some other recommendation for repair shops in the brissy area Happy long weekend everyone! |

Thank god you have the solid Alpine White, and not a pearlescent finish.
Have a similar scuff on a MINERAL WHITE F20 and have been told by ChipsAway and other smart repair shops that it can't be done, re spray required. Quote from BMW £1000 involving painting the whole bumper and to my surprise Independent body shops came in at £650 agreeing a whole bumper needed doing to match the pearlescent finish.

Hope you get it fixed for a good price buddy.
I was rear ended a couple of days ago by someone not paying attention whilst I was at a give way sign (stationary as giving way to traffic, funnily enough grr). I've lodged a claim with my insurance (AAMI) and an in the process of looking for a repairer here in Perth. Minor damage to my rear bumper (the black bottom part as well as some chips to the painted area, plus some damage to number plate surround with the plate lights dangling out). Sadly AAMI don't allow choice of repairer but I don't want to go to their SMART repair centre after hearing bad things. I'll be taking my car for some quotes at both some BMW approved body shops here in WA and some aami approved repairers. It's only minor damage so I'm hoping most places should do a good job, will just need a new bumper and respray I imagine. Sorry to hijack thread but thought similar topic, if anybody has had good experience with anyone here in Perth, any recommendations would be great! |

Easily done mate. Not nice when you damage your pride and joy.
Take it into a decent body shop and get a smart repair. UK cost would be around £150

I did the same to mine on the RHS 3 weeks in, as I was not used to the large overhangs on the front coming from an A1 - also copped another one on the LHS couple of weeks back thanks to an errant metal bar on the freeway.. Have noticed these bumpers appear to be really 'soft'.
I'm also in Brisbane, could get a discount for two at a time, let us know how you go |

Had a similar ding on my bumper. "Luckily" I took out cosmetic insurance when I bought my f20. The repair job was really cheap but it looks as good as new and my cosmetic insurance covered it, now I just need to scrape my car a few more times in the next two years to get my money's worth out of the insurance. Mine is also Alpine White btw.

Hi guys, just to give a quick update, got it quoted for 350$ from a couple of places, so will probably give it in for repair in the coming weeks. Once that's done i'll put some photos up for a before/after comparison

Got my car fixed for 350$, they even found a little scratch on the passenger side bumper and fixed that for me for no costs. Will post pics soon, just letting anyone know who is in the same predicament that BMW brisbane bodyshop were great to deal with!
