Launch Control for the M135i (ZF Auto)
It doesn't take too long to dig this sequence out from the net does it?...
"1tap on the dtc switch, sport button on, gearknob shifted to sport and then one tug on the paddle to bring the gearbox to manual mode, foot flat on the pedal and brakes and wait for the chequer flag to appear. let go of the brake pedal and your away" Video to prove it. Yellow chequered flag telltale on the dash. Courtesy of BMWFanatics South Africa : ) Anyone dare try it? I think I'd give it a go once, for kicks, but probably only on a track. And even then I'm pretty sure the OBD would squeal at the next service. Either that or the gearbox would complain or break knowing my luck. Quite happy heavy footing it in Sport+ off the line without doing this anyway.

Not too sure. I had doubts about that part myself. Especially as we have Sport+ as well as Sport. I suppose it wouldn't hurt the transmission to get that far, but god only knows how you'd cancel it. Possibly flicking back to manual I suppose?

I have wondered about what happens on our manual gearbox car if I put in in neutral to activate the start/stop feature, and then put it back into first gear without using the clutch pedal. What happens then if I push the clutch pedal slowly in? Did't dare to try...

Well I thought I saw a vid from Chile:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1_XHhORBW6k But looking at the dash now in daylight, and not at midnight, it's a different display entirely. Ha! Perhaps the vid was really a 135i M-Sport DCT? Is there such a beast?

The 135i coupe and convertible is available with DCT, which is what that dash looks like to me. Not the F20/1 M135i. |

The engine stays off when you push the clutch. Then it advises you to switch to neutral again and when you do that, the engine starts again.

I'm sure some people have taken delivery of their July-on builds by now; anyone tried the launch control yet?
Not that it's something I'll probably ever use other than once to try it out (and maybe once more if it's fun :P), will be interesting if there's actually any difference to the 0-100km/h time. To me it's largely academic, in gear acceleration is what it's all about! Saw some reviews where they didn't use the launch control on the A45 and got 5.1-5.2s 0-100kmh. Still a very quick car obviously but quite a big diff to the 4.4-4.6s regularly seen with the launch control. Can't imagine many A45 owners will be using LC regularly (unless a M135i pulls up next to them perhaps ) On a side note I'm taking an A45 for a test drive tomorrow. Will feedback my thoughts later in the week. |
