That's my point. My Dad's had a couple of demonstrator Porsches and others brand new, I can't say that there's been any noticeable in wear--that I've noticed anyway.

George had no end of problems with his demonstrator 323i. I bought one at the same time brand new and no problems at all. But they were electronic more than anything and I can't see how that's related to breaking in procedure.

So, I think it's just BMW being over-cautious.

I am pretty sure the BMW engineers would not give the advice if it didn't matter. But it is just a guideline. If you let it slip over 4500 RPM or into full throttle a few times, it does not ruin the engine. Be extra careful the first 15 minutes of driving after cold starts.

Didn't I see your dad's Porsche on the back of the tow truck the other day? Lol

It's not just BMW. Every car has a breaking in recommendation. Even GT3s. Most important thing is to remember that the tyres are green, and all the other mechanical parts are still tight. But engine? I would not worry too much about that given the tight manufacturing tolerances these days! They bench test them anyway and yes they redline it on the bench test.

$300, according to the invoice. I asked for darkest legal, didn't hassle about price, but I imagine it'll be a quality job, given it's a BMW dealer.

$860 is somewhat excessive , by any measure

$860?! What a joke. If you're in Melbourne I can highly recommend guy I know called Savet. I spoke with him yesterday to book in my M135i for tinting, and he said he was actually on his way to a BMW dealership to tint a 3 series.

He quoted me a third of what the dealerships will, yet he's still the guy that does the job, and he comes to you! Just goes to show the ridiculous profits dealers are making off us.

If you're keen on contacting Savet, his number is 0401 723 561. Mention that you got his details from me.

You know I'm always up for a drive day, Way! And there will definitely be some decent photos posted once I've had the car for a week or so.

Counting down the days now!

That's painful. Which dealer are you going through?

Yep, that'd be mine, and they told me they could loan me their demo... if they hadn't given it to you already!!

Ah well, mine will (hopefully) be ready on Tuesday now.

Hmm, perhaps they've gotten their wires crossed then. My dealer told me they'd given you the black one (from Prahran). I'll be hitting them up for it on Saturday!

Did they tell you what the delay was with yours? When do you take delivery?

they said that the cars are stuck in the clayton depot or something.
mine will be ready by wednesday

meanwhile i have been hooning around in the loan one and let me tell you, it will be well worth the wait. what an amazing car. the acceleration is phenomenal and that roar from the 6 is addictive. took some bends around Kew lookout and it handles like a go kart but feels amazingly solid. those rear wheels let go just enough to make it a bit scary but you never feel like your going to spin out. epic car

I was sorted out with a loaner today, although it's not an M135i. They've given me a 125i M Sport for the weekend, which I've gotta say, is a fantastic car. I had the E82 125i a few years ago, which had a NA 3 litre straight 6, and I thought the F20 would be noticeably different in performance since it's a 4 cylinder, but it's brilliant. Sadly though, it doesn't have that lovely exhaust note that the E82 had.
