I am not sure either exactly what you are asking. What do you mean by Icon? If you mean can adaptive be coded if not fitted then no. The adaptive lights work by physically turning the light units so can't be coded on if the motors to move the light units are not present which they won't be unless you specced the option in the first place.

I think OP is asking if VDL (variable light distribution) of 3/4 series LEDs can be coded onto an LCI F2x with adaptive LEDs and HBA....

My understanding is that the F30 has an additional camera to enable this system.

Oh I didn't know that the 1 series doesn't do that. Anyway, it doesn't work that well in my M4. Seem to work better in our C class. I wouldn't bother.

Again, my understanding is the camera may be located in the same position, but has different capabilities. Don't confuse the "Selective" auto high beam/low beam and cornering lights feature offered on the F20 with BMW's "Intelligent" Headlight technology. The latter, more sophisticated system can be identified by a horizontal bar in the middle of the LED headlight rings. Maybe this "Intelligent" system also uses the infra-red camera that's an option on the high-end 5/6/7 series. The new G11 7 series shows the future even further, with "Laserlight" technology, which can be identified by a blue highlight on the horizontal bar.
Headlight systems have improved so much over the last 10 years!

I looked into this for pre-LCI with adaptive xenons and HBA - it seems w/o above KAFAS, whilst you can code to enable VDL but it won't work.

BMW Like other manufacturers, like to keep their better technology for their Flagship ranges whilst still giving basic versions on their 'up spec' lower end model.
This is to entice us to move up to their 'better' models. The problem they have now is that more and more people are buying smaller sized vehicles. It is not so much price but usability that is desired now. You only have to see the number of hatch backs and small SUVs on the roads these days to realise that. The best technology will always be presented in their flagship models first. |

Of course, and we'll see it in lower models as the G generation is rolled out across the various series

Tim, has laser light been approved for Australia? I would love to try that for sure. LED has been a real disappointment for me. Having tried them on different BMWs and Mercedes now I can see no real benefit of them. They are "whiter" but doesn't give any more light, if that makes sense.

I know what you mean about LEDs. I think they project light a greater distance, but with less intensity, if you understand what I mean. Best test is with reflective signs on an otherwise unlit road; my sense is with LEDs, you will see these reflect from a greater distance away, but the surrounding detail, not so much. That said, I've been in a couple of 4WDs (proper ones) with LED light bars, and the light they throw out is amazing! A must if you buy a ute, I reckon

I've found both my 2015 1 & 2 series lights are excellent on our dark roads in New Zealand. Our 2 series adaptive lights are the best just some on coming drivers must feel the lights are too strong for them as I do get some flashing of lights but don't care any more just drive and enjoy.

And so is the 1 Series: http://f20.1addicts.com/forums/showp...46&postcount=4.
Well, that's strange (who dares to flash at a BMW? ), unless it's high beam , of course. Are the headlights clean? Xenon is vulnerable to dust light dispersion. That's why the headlights washers are a must for xenon (and not for the LEDs the thread is about, by the way). |

In the Australian market at least, the LCI 125i and M135i pick up LED headlights as standard fitments, with the M135i receiving adaptive LEDs with BMW "Selective beam". The latter is also an option for other models as part of the "Visibility pack"

It's 552 - Adaptive LED headlights with BMW Selective Beam. The description says "with variable light distribution, incl cornering lights and LED fog lights"
