Use of Start/Stop Override Button
Do you people use the engine Start/Stop Override Button often? I find myself always playing with it to help preserve the battery life, spark plugs, etc. Now i know there shouldn't be any problem of leaving it always deactivated, but i just can't help it. What is your experience?

The only time I use the override button is if I need to take my foot off the clutch briefly while stopped, but can see that the traffic's about to move again and I don't want the motor to stop.

Interesting to see different replies. I was thinking that since the button it's there must be for a reason. Also believe that would be better if the button was located on the steering wheel to allow faster selection while driving in the city (for example in place of LIM button which is very rarely used). What do you think?

For me the location is convenient, since I press it immediately after I press the Start button. However, I agree that the LIM button is utterly useless!

Interesting question this one, I have tried both in traffic in Eco pro mode (having it on/off) and it definitely helps to eek a few more miles out of the car over a full tank of fuel (with it on). But I could easily see how it could get annoying but getting use too it is the key.

Without the LIM function, I still have the option of setting an alarm for a certain speed - you probably do too.
The Stop/Start is fine. BMW say the car is saving petrol if the engine is off for 4 seconds, so that's almost any time you stop. It's slightly slower to start off again, but that's like, what, half a second? And if you know you're going to start moving again straight away, you just don't put it in neutral. (For the manual gearbox - how does it work with automatic?) |

Have always wondered about this option too, yes it might save small amounts of fuel but is it doing any harm to other car parts when stopping and starting again quickly, the system they have on the F20 (auto) does seem better then others I have came across as it only works under certain condtions. Still not sure though !!
