Upgrading Headunit

Hi all hope you’re all well.

Recently bought a 2012 BMW 1 series 118d. Of course these come with the crappy Idrive system that doesn’t even have Bluetooth music. So I wanted to slowly upgrade it to end up with a 8.8” screen and apple carplay. First issue was the 8.8” screen would only work on models that have EntryNav so 2014+.

So I started looking around online and found a few EntryNav units at decent prices. My plan is to replace the whole unit and put in the new one with EntryNav.

From speaking to a few people they made me aware that I will need to code the unit. I’ve already coded the screens before and other little bits and bobs on a different BMW I had.

Could someone please tell me what exactly I would need to code as when I asked a few people to do it they were charging £200+ for it.

Here is a link to the device I bought:

If am not mistaken, you have ENTRY_HU (bacis screen without BT and NAV and combox unit in the boot).

EntryNAV units are CIC unit, and you need NBT unit if you'd like to upgrade. So my advice here is, search for NBT unit.

As mentioned before, you need to make sure if you have a CIC, NBT o NBT Evo, this last one I don't thing since that was the I drive 6.x.
I don't thing you will need to code one of you go for an aftermarket unit

This website explains all the different HUs very clearly.

My 116i 2014 f20 without nav has the 663 Entry option HU and I am hoping to upgrade the screen to 8.8".

It has BT but no Combox in the boot (under the floor) and the voice button on the steering wheel doesn't work.

I read somewhere that the Champ2 is a cut down NBT unit. Mine also has DAB. and the USB and 3.5mm audio sockets in the central arm rest like the NBT version.

Also, apparently, it's not Champ 2 but an oddball called BMW Professional Radio and 'Entry' is printed on the HU label)
