I have many radar detectors, different brands, I prefer the ones with GPS location and front, rear and side detection, and band/# of signals. Next thing is education, a unit goes off, are you driving towards a unit, are being followed.
Occasionally I compare different detectors on day road trips. It is a crap shoot between units.

I have been an Escort guy for over 40 years, but buy other brands just to test.

None of my detectors will work in my new M50i. What's the best current work around?

what model detectors and why don't they work ?

A remote detector with the horns behind the grill also wouldn't work ?

Yeah, that post is kind of vague

Windshield mounted and powered by the 12v cigarette lighter. It's like they are not making the connection. Doing some reading it seems that the socket on escort units are not compatible with some BMW sockets.

Yeah, looks like an adapter may be the answer

Probably already been said but a lot depends what type of threat area you drive in. Rural, city etc.

Bang for buck..... I have had tremendous performance out of my Uniden R3. Great support from Uniden in regard to continual GPS updates & firmware modernization over the years.

Too late for that. First adapter didn't work. Just ordered an extension cable.

Still a solid detector. I upgraded to GEN two. Seems to false a lot less with BSM Except for those damn Honda CRV's

I was working LAX Approach and had a Singapore arrival coming in over Ventura. I was trying to beat the the guy coming in from the north so had him maintain his speed; 310 IAS. When I descended him out of 10K I figured he would slow. I handed him off to the next guy and went about sequencing the north & west arrivals. A couple minutes later he asked me what speed I gave SIA and I told him. Apparently he didn't slow out of 10K was was doing 310 over downtown LA at about 70K feet!

Also learned not to tell Mexican airlines maximum forward speed!

I've been a Valentine1 user since 1999. Best freakin' radar detector out there. I did the trade in for the V1G2 when it first came out and I still can't believe how much better it got. My only issue is that I had to turn off the laser because something in my car was making it constantly alert. But once you get tagged by a cop using laser it's too late.

Between the V1G2 and Waze, it's no worrying about getting caught speeding. Which of course I only do when in Mexico.

Do you have gesture control? That screws with the V1.

I mirror the sentiment. I will say that the Gen 2 is a huge upgrade over Gen 1. I do not have the issues with CRVs that Doc seems to have.

I'll have to try it out in the new X3 to see if gesture control messes with it, I was waiting to get it hard wired to try it in there.

Thumbs up

I've had a Uniden R3 for a few years and it is unbelievably good!
I decided to invest in the R7 with arrows and it is even more amazing if that's even possible. I also appreciate how Uniden releases regular firmware updates.
No other detectors have the range of sniffing out radar better than Uniden currently.

I've owned a Passport, Then wife gave me a V1. Now have an Escort 360. I need to update the V1 so it will stop going off on every dang vehicle on the road with passive cruse control. We drive a X6M50i and I have to disable all the hand gesture sensors to keep the laser detector from going nuts. like mentioned above I use
Waze a lot.

You'll need the Gen2 upgrade for that. Valentine does (at least did) give a discount if you trade-in your old V1.
