BMW AG has already made a massive investment into hydrogen cars. If you are not familiar with the E65 7 Series Hydrogen cars from the early 2000's, they built a fleet of them and tested them across the globe in many different environments to the tune of over 1,000,000 miles.

And then apparently mothballed the whole thing to await development of hydrogen infrastructure. They have planned for zero emissions for over twenty years.

V8, 510PS and 700Nm.

Before we switch to electric and the legislators limit us to 200kW

The truth is that electric vehicles a 1 or 2 incremental steps from being vastly superior to ice vehicles at this point. Throw-in a rapid charger so that you can load 200 miles in 15 minutes and what's left to prefer on an ICE?

I really don’t understand the pushback from some the people out there to something beyond BMW control and generally aimed at the wellbeing of all.

Let’s hope the tunes of the times can provide some entertainment to accompany thre performance and make up for the loss of engine noises.
Exactly the point. Evolution of things is/should be driven by free market and demands of people's wants. That's not what this is. It is artificially dictated.

What he said. The day they do this will be the day I stop driving M cars.

This really is not enough information. A hybrid ///M car could be interesting however a full electric ///M car just seems...well...taboo...like a GTR with a wooden steering wheel.

Some things just don’t belong in the same bed. The general public cannot tell the difference between a real ///M car and a “fake one” anyway; so this really could get interesting.

I still do not like electric cars, would I buy one to commute? yes, would I buy a minivan fully electric? yes, would I spend close to $100K on an electric sports car, no way. I just love rolling down my windows and hearing the sound Ford mustang GTs, hellcats, Ferraris, Lambos make, beautiful sounds. Attending an IMSA race and hearing the GT cars roar, just intoxicating.

I don't care how superfast electric cars are, silent sports cars are lame. I watched a Formula E race and it sounded like golf carts going around the track
Honestly sound isnt everything. While it's awesome and fun - is it truely important or even actually related to any performance ?

A lot of cars are loud af and equally as slow.
Actually these are the most annoying cars on the road. It's ok to loud, if your fast. If.

BMW needs only to take direct cues from
( which I'm certain they have ) the 918 spyder:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_918_Spyder

Who's gonna argue that the 918 isn't the beast of beasts in this category ? And I'm not even a Pcar guy at all ! But I gotta give it up to them ... this car is nearly 10 years old now !

Just Look at the specs

Heavy at well over 3600 lbs +++
The Porsche 918 Spyder is a plug-in hybrid sports car manufactured by German automobile manufacturer Porsche.
The Spyder is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.6 L (4,593 cc) V8 engine, developing 608 PS (447 kW; 600 bhp) at 8700 rpm, with two electric motors delivering an additional 210 kW (286 PS; 282 bhp) for a combined output of 887 PS (652 kW; 875 bhp) and 1,280 N⋅m (944 lbf⋅ft) of torque !!!

Get ready fam - like all things that change and evolve - this is inevitable and part of our future !

Experimental "Power BEV" 5 Series achieves 100+ hp more power than the M5

https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1627835

And whatever became of the 911GT3R hybrid ?

good news I think..., so I will save tons of $$, there will be no point to spend $100k+ for humming electric sports cars, no petrol smell, no engine or exhaust sound... when that happens probably my next car will be small fully electric KIA or public fully electric transport

They easily can and have before. Especially nowadays with all of their new composites and materials.

My i3rex is a complete and total whispering rocket ship. It beats nearly anything from light to light. ANYTHING ! The torque pull is shockingly fast.

My g30 530e - msport ? a silk hammer.

Do I still love my M cars more ? Hell yes, way more.

But
It's the future and I'll almost put $ on it they M division will evolve into an " I + M division.

Let's just see where it goes. But for now, I'm going to enjoy all of the different types of cars we currently have on market / hand. pic is of the 918 curb weight ( w arrow )

http://whatiscurbweight.com/vehicle-...urb_weight.htm

All of this talk of burbles and exhaust sounds and smells is making me want to go for a good old fashioned rip right now ... brb !

Guess who's turning 40 !?

Hmmm ...

What about the beautiful musical notes of the legendary BMW exhaust?
What about the brilliant transmission technologies of ZF ? Is the writing on the wall for ZF ?
How on earth can the suspensions take a car (electric) that will be, at least, 1.5 times heavier? Beefing up the suspension also increases the weight itself. The Telsa Model S weighs like my Honda Pilot.

Yes Tesla is a pig at well over 6k lbs curb weight

Yet still so swift - as time moves forward ... everything that starts off huge whittles down in size as technology and innovation grow.
Take just for a random example - computers and personal electronic devices and just how much in size and weight they've dropped since the 70s.

The Cray Computer in the 70s took up like
an entire room or building !

See pics.

Today, 4 decades later .. we have more computing power in our pockets than they ever even dreamed of back then !

... heck,
everything gets smaller faster and more tech as we move ahead. Just look at history's lessons. Give it some time.
I can just see BMWs marketing department already saying : the new BMW M ... it's ELECTRY- FLYING !

Serious question: Why do you need that? (gas station common charging and 4 minute charge times)

How often are you driving more than 300 miles in a single day?
I know this isn't directed at me, but you make a valid point. I personally can live with just an EV for the most part since the farthest I'd travel would be 240 miles to Dallas. But my family's apartment complex doesn't have any electric charging support so I'd need to go spend a few hours somewhere that does.

That's just an example of people's apprehension with EVs.
