F20 snap in adaptors - worth while?

Picking up my m135i in a couple of days and wondering the best way to connect my iphone 5s. Hoping someone can confirm if i'm right in thinking that the snap in adaptors appear to be somewhat of a space killer?
From what I can see the snap in adaptor does the same as a USB cable?

I'm tossing up if I should get one or just grab a usb cable and enjoy having a little extra storage space.

If you have one let me know your thoughts on it please.

Hi mate,
I got my M135i yesterday and had exactly the same query although i'm using a Galaxy S4. With a standard USB cable i think the functionality is the same as with the snap-in adapter? Bar the utilisation of the roof aerial for phone signal (someone please correct me if i'm wrong )

Is there much storage space to utilise without the adaptor or is it pretty much dead space? i cant seem to find any pics online.

I mean there is storage in that armrest, but specifically where the adapter is going to sit, no. because when you don't have an adapter, you have a rather clunky blanking plate which is in place of the adapter itself. When i get home i'll take a pic for you

Well you lose 50% of the storage space in the arm rest. Assuming you wont be piling stuff on top of the docked iPhone.

Adapter always beats just having a cable, looks better and its easier to connect/disconnect the phone.

Wait a moment, how the hell did you find an adapter for iPhone 5S? When I asked my dealer if it was available they looked at me like I was asking "When will cars fly?"... God my dealer is shit....

Dont tell me Australia got the adapter before Sweden that is like 5 minutes away from Germany aka BMWland aka I-like-apple-strudel-and-beer.

Where the USB cable is sitting is where the snap-in goes. as you can see to the left and right there are chunky brackets for the blanking plate

How about getting a Bluetooth device... This way you don't have to physically plug in your phone

There are two types of snap in adapter. One is a simple alternative to the USB cable; the other is a "media adapter", which offers much greater integration of the phone and Pro Nav screen...but really, not much more than you already have with the full BT capability (maybe video, and antenna signal strength). Obviously, it keeps your phone nice and tidy, and charged.

I keep tossing up, but it's expensive in Australia (or even purchased from an o/s site) for not much benefit, IMO. Oh, and the BMW voice system is not all that good with Australian accents

I just bought a y-cable from BMW - you can get them through eBay for less I think also. At the time, they were only for iPhone 4 and earlier, but a 4-to-5 adapter allows quick charging, playback with iDrive control and album art and full functionality of the telephone function.
