USB Audio Interface Troubleshooting...

I've just got my new F20 and something strange is happening and I wonder if I'm doing something wrong here or is it a common issue:

I have the regular Bluetooth with USB Audio interface and I'm using a USB Stick plugged in the center console for listening to music.
When I first plug the USB stick, it is quickly recognized and I can access and play all the songs in it.

The problem is that if I shut down the car and leave the USB stick plugged, when I come back after a few minutes and start the car, the connection to the USB stick is lost and it never comes back automatically. I have to unplug it and plug it again every time.

I don't think this is the way it is supposed to be, can you tell me your experience?

No, it's not working correctly. The first time you attach a new USB, it takes a while for the system to read all the indexing material, but then it's known, and should be available very quickly at each restart.

I'd guess it may not be your car, but perhaps the formatting/content of your usb stick. Try making some playlists on a small USB, and see what happens. There's some playlist creator applications around that make the process pretty simple, and avoid random, hidden files being copied to the USB a, which might be the cause of the problem.

I show the steps for Mac, but the windows version of the same app works the same. You may want to index in this manner: http://f15.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho...ist+mattbianco

Thanks Matt -- that's the one I use, and your step-by-step tutorial is perfect! I recall trying a few different settings to get it right

I encounter the same problem. Sometimes, the USB stick is recognized really quick, but most of the times i'll have to eject my USB en re-enter before reading. There is no pattern in this behavior.

Read Matt's step-by-step guide. I'll bet there are hidden files on your USB stick as part of copying playlists to it.

SOLVED: changed the USB stick an now it works...

First, thank you all for your replies!

It turns out that the problem was the USB stick itself... I've replaced it for an older one and now it re-starts playing right after starting the car, as it should.

Strangely, both are formatted as FAT32 with songs at just 128Kbps and 44 MHz, can't get what was the problem.

I noticed one difference though, exporting the music files from my computer to the USB stick that works takes much longer than to the one that doesn't work... very annoying.
