F21 'Torque Steer' feel at full throttle?
Left my M135i Auto with the Dealer I bought it from for the last 3 days to have the bonnet resprayed (ding was their fault) and a Tracker Locator fitted and had one of their brand new 5-series M Sport armchairs in the meantime.
Got my Warthog back today and realised how much the N55 engine tips to the right at full throttle and high revs. Only had the car a few weeks so I hadn't really appreciated this before. The sensation felt much like Torque Steer: the harder the throttle the greater the tendency to veer to the right, but with the open diff I suppose it can't be that can it? I seem to recall this was less of a problem in my 130i M Sport, despite the same longitudinal engine layout. In my head I imagined it to be a weight-shifting issue, with the block leaning on its engine mounts and tipping over slightly. Anyone else notice this? I wonder if it needs a bar across the block to reduce the lean? Wouldn't mind except that here in the left-hand drive UK this lean means you might be veering across the road into the path of oncoming traffic on a single carriageway unless you compensate with more left oversteer.

Might as well ask the obvious questions.
Front tyres are pumped to the same pressure level? Is the M135i brand new? There might be shipping blocks left in. (e.g. http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=727672) Can you feel through the steering wheel the front wheels trying to change direction? |

I've not seen anyone else mention this, certainly not in the press who'd be all over something like that. Back to the dealer IMHO and show them as it surely can't be right. My thoughts would be a faulty bush on the suspension somewhere.

That's a new one on me. But then I've not had cause to buy that many new cars. Will have a peek at the shockers.
Don't think anything is fundamentally wrong as such, just feels like a bit of a tendency to shimmy to the right, particularly on change of gear with full throttle. Not noticing any other vague steering or pulling issues otherwise.

Can't say I've noticed what you've described at all. So, if you lift the bonnet, and have someone rev the motor, is the engine moving a lot? It all sounds a tad abnormal to me, especially if you feel the car move to the side when you accelerate. Engine mounts?!

The F20/21 has very soft engine mounts. When I dynoed the car, the guy in charge of the dyno said he had never seen so soft mounts before. He could move the engine around quite easily by hand. This was with a 116i, though.

Thanks all. Have booked it in for a rolling road session anyway. Will look at engine movement then with the bonnet up.
