30 mm more legroom is nothing to sneeze at. Also the new car is possibly shorter overall and almost certainly lighter than the old one.

Got behind the wheel of some examples at Aschheim from 118d to M135i xDrive.
Quality and Premium feel is higher than the F20. Rear leg room is far more impressive. A hindrance to current sales for many. M135i is excellent but would like to see further performance as the chassis can handle it.
F40 should have a much bigger impact on the market than the F20. It still has many BMW qualities that will help it stand out in the segment especially that everything else in the segment is either FWD or AWD.

The current 1 Series is reportedly of higher "premium", (cabin) quality feel and more room, yet worse handling than the predecessor. Not enough? No more obvious handling advantage over the competitors. Enjoy the multimedia and a trailer built-in.

306 hp ?? FWD..? 4 pot..?
Don't think I'll be chopping in my M135 any time soon then..!!
How does a successor arrive with less power and by the looks of it a more sterile driving experience?
That's not progress..

Interesting, that looks quite different from the M135i. I wonder if it's M-sport or standard?

personally...I really don't like it from what I can see from these pics...

IMHO, as it shares everything with the MINI, a MINI it's a better choice.

"Everything", as in everything except the body, wheels, interior, instrumentation and everything else that you see from the inside or the outside. Plus tweaks to the chassis and drivetrain etc.

I happen to think this looks great and the Mini has an ugly interior, so for me the BMW is definitely a better choice. Also the standard Mini is too small and the Clubman is too weird..
