Toast?

I think we're SOL. . .All of my preliminary research shows little hope for replacing a rechargeable battery in these keys. . .They're designed in such a way as to make replacing them extremely difficult, the two halves of the key sealed together requiring cutting with a utility knife and then the contact tabs against the battery soldered in place. Mine on my '08 just died and will no longer take a charge apparently. I'm going to "park" the key in the ignition to see if it helps but I'm doubtful.

This your problem as well?

I am not sure about yours, but my 2008 with comfort access have a battery that is not rechargeable and is easily replaced.

But OP has a 2002, so could be a totally different key.
