Are we going to 4 cylinders, for good?
I was just wondering, after watching Australian GP with Sky, it seems 76% think changes are good for F1. Meanwhile there is another clip seeing how most people flock to the BMW Active Tourer, so good or bad, people seem to be willing to change.
This willingness to changes seem to be going on in DTM as well, whose cooperation in JGTC (Japanese Super GP), bring both of them to 4 cylinder turbo cars. Does this mean the everything including up to M3 will be 4 cylinders (DTM cars seem to be using M3/M4), while we might have a chance seeing the 6 cylinder only in bigger cars, like the M5/M6? |

Formula 1, Touring car and rally car championships are all 1.6 liter turbo now.
Just as my 116i. So yes, this is clearly a trend going that way. I think we will also see that BMW will shift more cars over to FWD, except for the fastest ones. Too bad, because I like cars with rather weak engines and RWD. |

I don’t think that the DTM< cars will have an effect on the road going cars, when BTCC started to offer people a chance to choose between a 1.6 turbo or a 2.0 N/a the majority of the cars there didn’t have one of the engines offered straight from the manufacturer My 2C

2014 BTCC engines are 2.0 ltr Turbo and if my trip to Brands Hatch on Sunday is anything to go by, they sound much better that the 2014 F1 engines.

Well the few days I had the 118i it was good enough. Engine was very smooth, BMW 4 pot seems to be pretty good. Complain for complaining sake, if it has the fast steering rack, it'd be much better. I don't current car buyers will be able to tell the difference between 4 or 6 around town, especially there are enough people buying it just for the badge. No, no replacement for the 6, but it seems inevitably we will be tree huggers soon enough.
I am all for fuel saving if they can pull it off. My few run ins with the A45 AMG finding it is an amazing car pull in the straight (or I am not suppose to say that here ) I hope it sucks or has kink in its armor on the mountains though. I am stuck in the days when you have to make enough road going version of the race cars, so they have enough of a connection.... One thing good about the F1 of 2014, is that we are able to hear the team radio more clearly |
