I'm looking forward to seeing my Dravit Grey G80 in a couple of weeks, and I appreciate your explanation here as I didn't know about it.

My first BMW was an E39 in Toledo Blue, identical to this one:

I never really knew where that name came from. There was a Toledo Blue Stockings minor league baseball team in the late 19th century, whose logo (below) does look somewhat similar to the car paint... but that's an awfully obscure reference. If anyone else knows the real answer, I'd be curious.

That Toledo Blue looks fantastic! They need to bring that back for sure.

The more you know!
Huh? Carbon Black paint is named after Carbon Black itself. Carbon Black is it's own thing. Yeah it's used in carbon paper but that's like saying "cherry red" is named after cherry ice cream when cherries are their own thing.

Haha, not much left of the original, except it's paint.

Not sure they got it right with Phytonic Blue, given phyton is the smallest part of a plant that will grow into a new plant. Anyone know about the origin on this one?

Snapper Rocks Blue

Snapper Rocks is a small rocky outcrop on the northern side of Point Danger at the southern end of Rainbow Bay on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. It is a famous surf break and today the start of the large sand bank known to surfers as the Superbank.

Hold the phone there, buddy. Them's fightin' words. What's not to like? And you even had a Carbon Black M3??

Two of my favorite all-time cars happen to be Carbon Black:
2018 M550 (Retired)
Name: Winter2.jpg
Views: 994
Size: 499.1 KB
And current 2022 M850 in April snow
Name: Car12.jpg
Views: 990
Size: 654.7 KB
And, looks even more killer now than above pic - just had tints and ceramic pro done today.

Carbon black is what makes your tires black, as natural rubber has a variety of colours. Adding the carbon black to the mixing machine is one of the worst jobs in a tire factory - get even small amounts of it on your skin and it takes days to wash off. Add white pigment and you have the rubber for whitewall tires. WHen I worked at a tire factory, the chief chemist used to add blue pigment instead of CB at the end of a run and staff would be offered blue tires to match their blue cars. Whitewall tires are so expensive partly because the white rubber needs to be produced on a separate dedicated, very clean production line, which complicates the production process and limits options for switching production lines. It's just easier to have everything black.

Does this mean Toyota is just using BMW colours for their Supra and renaming them?

Now that I think about it, Toyota Moeraki Grey looks suspiciously like BMW Dravit Grey. Can anyone confirm this? Although, Dravit looks more bronze.
