Service Question
Does every service need to be done by BMW in order for the warranty to continue?
Or is it just the major services? My car is asking for service front break pad 2500km 03/2013. So is it in 2500km or March 2013? |

Which ever comes first. 2500km or march 2013. I don't think BMW has to service it BUT genuine parts must be used to keep warranty. Also, if there is a problem after you have car serviced somewhere else and it's related to the service they may well void warranty. I'd just take it to dealer while its under warranty. One more think, brakes are not included in service pack. Just filters, fluids and labour.

Do not know the law in Austalia. In Europe, the warranty is valid even you service the car outside the main dealer network, as long as: you used genuine parts and the service was done according to BMW instructions (down to the last detail, like the torque required to bolt a nut for example). If you can prove that the above 2 conditions were met, then BMW cannot void your warranty. In real life, just to have your peace of mind, it is better to stick to main dealer network for the duration of your warranty.

So I want to avoid them, also because they are a rip off and i know a guy that has his own shop and does only BMW, Mercs and Audi and does a great job at a lower price. |

Don't know how it works in Aus but over here the service plan is decent value. Pay a couple of hundred up front and all services are carried out by the dealer for 3 years. They usually try and sign you up to it when you place the order, the dealer it came from should have a record of it.

Its only free if a buyer qualifies for Audi and BMW's corporate programs during a puchase (check links below for dealer pre-owned / demo sales). To qualify for this program, your company / employer must be a volume buyer of their vehicles...(or to that effect) - see links. The program provides u with special pricing (audi - not sure re. Bmw) and basic servicing (oil and other fluid changes, filter changes, etc...) for the first three services (in some cases, loan car hire during a service). You can read up about it from their respective websites. For my 125, i didnt qualify. However, my dealer offered a service package that i could pre-buy. I declined though - i'd rather pay more during service intervals than to hand over the cash upfront... It's an after sales pack. There are two available.
BMW Service Inclusive. £300 Servicing costs for 5 years/60,000 miles BMW Service Inclusive plus. £1285 Servicing and maintenance costs for 5 years/60,000 miles I'd take the inclusive plus pack if I had an M3 or M5 as they can eat discs and pads which cost £1000+ to replace easy. |

Best bet is to call your dealer. It may vary. Mine was quoted circa this amount. (I cant remember the exact figure). The package covers a number of services. With the pricing that youre quoting...are they inclusive of a number of services or are they once off services?

I'd check with an Australian dealer. I wouldn't guarantee there's any relationship between UK and Aust pricing.
However, if it is just brake pads, I think you'd be fine using a qualified independent dealer or brake specialist without affecting warranty. |

I just wanted to know how much we are ripped off over here. I know costs are different.

In regards to warranty; here's what the ACCC has to say: Quote:
Edit: The Express Warranty part threw me off. Perhaps do a Google search on the differences between Statutory and Express Warranties and see if you can make sense of it
