Where the 2006-2008 Z4 coupe had all the vestiges of the convertible version removed, even the concept car did. This one still has the roll over bars inside.
One would think a production ready car would be stripped of anything that would be convertible only.

Sure, and the Z4 B58 6MT will debut next year. What I meant is, there's none right now they could take off the production line and repurpose into the Touring Coupe Concept, so they left it with the (less exciting for this car) 8AT.

I struggle to understand why when choosing what project they'd make into the first M-exclusive car since the M1 to celebrate M's 50th anniversary they went with the XM over this thing. Had they made this body shape and the G80 powertrain in a CSL-like tune this would've been received so much better by the enthusiast community. Even if they decided it would be a low-volume offering, I'm sure they'd have found takers.

As ugly as the XM is, it’ll still sell 10x more than this thing, because at least the XM has some utility to it. This vehicle is pointless and wouldn’t sell beyond the 0.05% of people simply choosing it because it’s unique.

Because that's what made M a global icon, being utilitarian.

I've no use for the rear seat.
rear seat is for childs or they are folded to put larger travel suitcases
thats the main difference with Z4M Coupe.

Absolutely love this - but I truly don't see this as a classic enthusiast's special. Rather, I see it as a reborn Alpina-style Z4 coupe, beautiful, exclusive, expensive.

As an M car, there is no business case for this so late in the model cycle. The audience for this at the price they will charge will sadly not be into manuals, they want simple restrained elegance - exactly what the concept provides.

This is seriously renewing my interest in the old Z4M Coupe!

My second generation 1 Series has increased rear capacity which affects both size and look and is a waste in my case: I have no children and my medium size travel suitcase fits the boot/trunk easily, I don't even have to remove the shelf. My rear seat is a dust collector only. "Just in case" extra capacity is nice, but no such case in almost ten years. The subject car (body style) looks a perfect compromise between a two-seater coupe and a hatchback from the practicality point of view (no need to fold anything ).

Could you imagine this with an S58 and MXDR? I would need to seriously re-evaluate my current allocation. But as a DD, I would definitely be interested in a 5-door full-electric powertrain (with more trunk space and if the price was reasonable).

I’d buy it. Although I’m sure it would be a limited run to boost the price outside the reach of us mere mortals. The demand would most likely be higher than supply.

Demand won’t be higher than supply if the price is reasonable.

What’s odd is BMW putting out a “feeler” of interest. I don’t remember them ever doing this overtly. And lately they don’t seem to give a rats arse if anyone is interested overtly in any of their new designs. Whole thing feels strange to me, and I expect them to pull the same historic strategy with the Z when all is said and done. A coupe for last few model years. This is hype.

Nice grill that should have been on the 4 Series, but otherwise strange proportions.

God forbid someone buys a high priced sports car for reasons behind utility lol

I just bought a Z4 G29 for my wife/ fun good weather runabout. It is a great chassis.

I’ll put a deposit down - make this with the S58 and a 6sp, or even auto, and I’ll buy it. Tomorrow, no kidding. I’m ready to move on for something with character, like this.

New Z4M FTW.

It's definitely goofy looking, which is the charm like the original clown shoe.

I'll take goofy any day over the horribly ugly, completely awful styling of nearly every BMW being pumped out right now.
