Considering how many women are date raped, I don't think it is all that dumb on the friend's part. The dumb one was the girl who didn't respond knowing what the circumstances would be if she didn't. A simple text like "hey, everything's going well, we are watching a movie" would have avoided the whole thing.

It's not necessarily that it's a shitshow out here, it's that the girls my age don't go out with other girls in a down to meet new people manner. This applies from clubs to starbucks, many people that I knew back in high school I haven't talked to them in a while and it just doesn't sound like it'd be worth the effort to reconnect, meet their friends to maybe go on a few dates to bang when i'm here for one more week

This is why I don't do dinner or anything, at least on a first date, any longer. Have not in a while. I meet them somewhere local that I don't even have to drive to for a drink. If they want to also order food, cool, but they are paying for their own shit. I've walked out on many dates too (Not b/c they wanted me to buy their drink) so my drink was on them
