This is what I am fearing. I just ended a 13 year relationship. I'm 43 and I guess it's time to go to work again in this new environment. How old is your buddy? I'm just curious if the women in my demographic are going to do things the new way or the 'old school' way.

I'm going to jump in here. I'm 42. I got married in '99 to my children's mother, separated in '08, divorced in early '09, remarried again in '09 and single again in '15. The women of "our" demographic have a whole new world to deal with. Not only are most of them eat up with the social media bullshit just as the younger ladies are, you also have to contend with the whole MILF ideology that the porn industry has created. Every guy older than 17 is trying to get in on the older ladies due to this fantasy and a lot of them take it as an ego trip.

In this day and age, if you try to strike up a conversation with a woman in public you are labeled as a creep. If you ask for a phone number you are referred to social media and usually ignored unless your social media game is strong (basically being fake as hell like the rest of them).

If you try an online dating site don't expect much. You'll get women that throw themselves at you - these are the women that are constantly on these sites and never find a man - stay away from them unless you just want laid. You will also discover the "Why are there no good men left" candidates....these fall into the same category as above. In short, you need to keep in mind (as stated on here before) dating sites for women are like a never-ending carousel of dick for women to choose from. They hold all the cards and it's like a feeding frenzy. They have a continual supply of men trying to get in their pants and this makes them very reluctant to reply to you.

Expect to be ghosted, stood up or straight up ignored as soon as you find someone you like, as they will not stop their search just because they started talking to you and as soon as someone better comes along; you no longer exist to them.

Long story short, learn to get comfortable being by yourself. The dating pool = cesspool these days. People are shallow and no one has any notion of being reliable, dependable or accountable.

I wish I had better news for you. There are plenty of single ladies out there and some good ones, but they are incredibly difficult to find these days.

My advice, keep your emotions locked up tight until you find someone worth sharing them with. If you're a kindhearted person, you'll need to change this quickly.

No children stress (i.e. headache of stupid shit they do, no strain of this on a relationship that the female will have to deal with, no distraction from the lady in this aspect and no child support)

Never been married means no ex-wife drama for potential lady suitors to deal with. This is HUGE!!!

If you have a decent home, a decent car, a good job and know how to approach/talk to women; you about to be swimming in a sea of ladies trying to sink their hooks into you. A lot of single men would kill to be in the position you are in. Expect all the bullshit mentioned before, but learn how to use this to your advantage. Many guys and gals get depressed about how tainted the scene is but if you can reverse engineer the dynamic, this can be very beneficial based around what you are looking for. Make damn sure your communication game is strong. If you know what you are looking for stay focused on that. Much like the difference between a marksman and someone who just sprays bullets at their target, yes you can spray bullets and hit many targets randomly or focus slowly on one. Thanks for the pep talk! Yes, I am gainfully employed, own my home, and I am a pretty social guy. At 43, I have ZERO interest in 'casually dating around' if you know what I mean. I'm looking for the real deal, nothing else interests me. Given the recent turn of events in my life I actually think I'm doing OK, but it's not easy. 13 years is a long time. But I know what I want, and I intend to get it.

Good advice, and I'd add this: The ratio of women:men on dating sites is 5:1. They outnumber us so the choices are actually endless. I'm currently at about 2 months with the ex-model, standard tall type, not bikini like the other one. She's 46, gorgeous, and pretty cool. I, however, have kept my profile open until we agree to become exclusive which is something I'm open to. I'm a bit over 50 but look like I'm 40 and I get messages from women ages 35 to 58...on average 2-3 per day. If I wanted to, I could go out every night with a different woman. It's ridiculous. Some are shallow and most are broken in some way or another. Tread lightly because the crazy from them or their ex is alway simmering below the surface ready to explode into your life. I do a top-level background check on all of them. In fact, 2 got offended...IDGAF. They can keep their cray-cray and chaos to themselves.

Lastly, you're 100 percent correct on being kindhearted. Put up a shield because you'll be wading through a lot of detritus until you get to the gems and even then, you'll need to do a bit of polishing.

I'll add a caution to this. The 43, never married and no-children can be a big red flag to some women just as it is to most men. If a woman has this set of stats, I'm thinking crazy cat lady, in situ or in the making. What's wrong here? I think Chihuahua needs to be able to clearly elucidate his situation and be up-front. Not that an explanation is needed, it's just a potential challenge for a lot of women. Trust me on this.

You know what, I actually don't think that's the case. Maybe because im in a college town or people have a rough idea of each other's backgrounds here (same college, similar backgrounds kinda thing) but it's not impossible to meet people in person here...

I've yet to meet "dating material" here sure but i also have never been directed to her instagram/fb/etc, nowadays yes you first get her snap and THEN her number, but i've met more than a few at my local coffee shop (not starbucks)

and @not_rudi i never thought of the milf scene like that honestly, good insight my man. i can definitely see if/when these young kids hit on older women (myself included you guys know my tendencies by now haha) that'd boost their ego out the orbit...
