Alpine stereo upgrade?
Any one know how much for this upgrade in Hong Kong?
Is its quality compatible with the HKardon? Is it possible to get the HK system upgrade after I I did not order mine originally? |

HK is factory fitted only. The Alpine unit is £400 in the uk if that helps at all.

Thanks, I can use that price for reference. Does the 400 include installation?
Really want to upgrade my sound system but as u said, HK is only factory installed. The alpine may be the second best. And I don't want to mod my stereo after market. Thanks very much. |

Alpine upgrade
I have purchased and fitted, (myself) the Alpine retrofit upgrade to my E87 and at the price of £385 (parts only), proved to be very good value, as a retrofit...
I suspect the fitting to a F20 would be no more difficult, it took me appx 3hrs and I was taking my time. All of the connections snap into the existing loom and there are no wires to cut. The most difficult procedure is removing the door trims and fitting the new door and tweeter speakers. From a performance point of view, (I have not heard the HK system, but I have ordered it in my F20 for march delivery), whilst it is a great improvement on the standard fitment, I cannot imagine it will be as good as the factory fit HK system. The Alpine upgrade consists of two mid speakers and two tweeters, plus an amplifier. the two mids replace the xisting speakers in the front doors, the tweeters and the amp are additional. The HK system includes a higher power amp, additional and improved speakers all around the car inc the dash board and some surround processing hardware. In the UK, the HK option is appx £585 which is comparible to the total cost of the Alpine system if you were to get it fitted by a specialist. So, in my opinion, whilst the Alpine is reasonable value, if you have the oppotuinity to add the HK to the fac fit options, it will be money well spent... Reading the spec of the HK, if you were to attempt to retrofit, i'm guessing it would cost appx 3-4x the orig price... It uses optical connections between the head unit and amp so some coding will be required too. If you are intending to spend this sort of money, far better quality could be obtained by simply adding an amp and replacing the speakers with high quality units. A specialist car HiFi dealer here in the UK offers such an upgrade for appx £1000.00 |

Alpine upgrade should be available everywhere by now. Try asking on other dealers as well. For all of you thinking about Alpine upgrade i say go for it! It can't be worst than the standard set up which is really bad!
