F20 with 676 HiFi - Upgrade options
Hi there
I just received my F20 116d a couple of weeks ago and I'm quite pleased with it. The audio is the 676 HiFi option, which sounds OK, but I'd like a bit more punch and definition. Is it possible/worth it to retrofit the Alpine kit into a factory 676? Are there other options for upgrading? Thanks! |

I am informed by my dealer that the Apine kit can be fitted after at a fairly heafty cost.
There are also several car stereo installation companies that can professional fit high end speakers in the same locations as your standard units and boost ampifiers in the system that will enhance the sound, however it is how they effect the cars warrantee that has to be considered. |

I've researched this a bit and from what I've read it's not (easily) possible to retrofit the Alpine kit if you have the Hi-Fi system, as the Alpine kit is designed to replace the standard system.
I've also read that the Alpine is not as good as HK. My impression is that it's only a little bit better than Hi-Fi, so in your situation, I think you're better off either leaving it alone or taking it to a dedicated audio shop for some serious upgrades. But this is all based on hear-say, so... Good luck! - Rick |

If you haven't got HK, and you really can't live without a fantastic hifi, go to a specialist car HiFi centre and get the existing 'system' enhanced.
There are many high end speakers that can be fitted where yours are now and under seats etc along with an amp could make a hugh difference. Question is? If you spend a lot of money to upgrade to the Alpine or whatever, and it does not meet your expectations then what. Do you trade-in your 1er on a another 1er with HK, Zenons and all those extras in that colour you really liked. Live with it for a while longer, you may just get to like the one you have. |

Thanks for all the answers. It doesn't sound bad at all, but I had a custom sound system on my last car (Kenwood Excelon head unit, Alpine PDX-5 amp, etc.) and I kinda miss that "aftermarket" sound.
Any experience with adding a sub to this config? |

Take your car to a car audio specialist. They should be able to check your system and let you know what kind of Sub you have and give you options. most of these guys are up to date with mods available
