The only speeding ticket I've ever gotten was in a 2011 Hyundai Sonata with the 2.0t engine...274 hp and made it a little fun to drive.

82mph in a 55mph zone and $450 + 6 points on my license and a "good thing I didnt clock you going 30+mph over" from the cop. I plead down to a seatbelt violation for 2 points on my license and $250. Basically a cash grab by the court.

You have to be rich/wealthy to be able to defend yourself.

It's behind me at least (Although these tickets specifically stay in my file for 10 years to track recidivism, I must limit my future highway speeding top 159kmh for 10 years lmao) got my license back end of July but man every time I think back at it just pisses me off. Like shit like that must happen daily in our society and people are just powerless to it.

circa 1993 on I-10W on the florida panhandle...was clocked at 98 mph in a 60 mph zone i dont remember the fine amount but it was definitely above $200 and shouldve been $1,000 and jail time.

i was driving nearly new E36 as the #2 car in a left lane speed train led by a corvette. there were at least 3 cars behind me. cop waved them all over but let them go. stopped me and the 'vette. my MIL ID was very visible when i opened my wallet to retrieve my drivers license. cop asked me...are you active duty? i said, yes, sir...navy. he sighed and shook his head before he walked back to his car to write me up. came back and admonished me severely, threatened the jail time, and then handed me a ticket written up for 79 mph.

Reckless driving (5th or 6th offense, I use to street race a lot):

84 in 55
10 days in jail 6 suspended
368$ fine

Judge was like "I guess you still haven't learned, maybe some time behind some bars will do the trick."

Hmm I’ve just come back from Belgium and Germany (and the Netherlands). I didn’t drive like an idiot but i can’t say i was religious about following the limit either. What would have been the signs i should be expecting something in the mail?

In Belgium they clearly mark the radar traps so at least i slowed down for that stuff…

Back to the question, I’ve only gotten $200-250 speeding tickets (call it $400-500 including the cost of traffic school and court fees), but i had a run where i was getting them every year. I called them my annual “speed limit exemption tax”, which infuriated my wife

I was driving on coming traffic in an exhibition of speed against my friend in his F150, I was in a e53 x5. We were 16 and still had probation on our licenses. Both cars packed. I got pulled over, detained, and eventually let go with 11 citations lol got my license suspended for a whole month.

Both highest potential:
70 in a 35 in 1993 in my 66 mustang. Luckily he wrote it as exceeding speed limit and was only $70 but would have been $400.
75 in a 55 in 1999 in my 66 mustang in Virginia, was a reckless driving ticket, judge knocked it down to $70 as well.

Funny, I have been 143mph in my Porsche and the only speeding ticket I got in it was 57 in a 55. Damn VA cops are ruthless.

Dang! In Netherlands - where I live - it's crazy as beside the 100 km/h limit between 7h-19h we've the 120 km/h for the rest of the time on those roads that are allowed this speed. In what turns a nightmare. Radars everywhere that will do radar control and speed average making your day be miserable sometimes. Of course that there's moments of explosion and you just go with the flow and take your own risk. It is what it is!

We often see Laser gun method for getting tickets!

A laser gun measures the speed at which a car is driving towards the device. He does this at the speed of light and accurate to three decimal places. A laser gun only shows how fast someone is driving, but does not store any information about the driver. That is why the driver is often put to the side (standing position).

Ok. I drove from Brussels to Amsterdam and I didn’t see any police holding lasers. I hope I’m in the clear. Your highways very suddenly change limits so if you’re not paying attention suddenly you’re going way too fast.

I didn’t see as many windmills on the drive as i wanted to! Disappointed.

In my youth traveling on I-10 between San Antonio and Houston, I was stopped for speeding. Being just 27 years old and not very bright, I collected my ticket and went on my way. Since the officer sat on the side of the road finishing the paperwork I sped back up to the speed I was doing before. A few minutes later my Passport blows up again. Instant on from behind. Same cop pulls me over again. I absolutely loved his response when he walked up to my car the second time.

"I had a feeling you were going to do that. Y'know I can do this all day"

Big surprise my 1991 FC Mazda RX7, STP ball cap (on backwards) Ray bans and Slayer t-shirt probably looked sketchy.

Two 80/65 came to around $185 ea which is around $800 today. Definitely put in some OT at work that month.

yes, for sure. lucky that most cops in the US southern states are supportive of US military. i was polite, didn't offer any excuses, and answered his questions with "yes, sir" and "no, sir."

it probably also helped that i actually had a perfectly clean driving record...although at that time in the early '90s i dont believe that law enforcement could access records from other states. the cop asked me if i had received any moving violations in the previous 7 years, and i could answer honestly, "no, sir" that i had not.

It's all good man! Just sharing some of our burning money experiences! That's it - no shame of doing it!

My fine was $1000 Canadian and a 2 month suspension for 165 kph in an 80 construction zone. No construction or workers present, just the road had been chipped and I got tired of sucking dust. I was on an Yamaha FJR motorcycle. My demerit points were reduced to 3 from 6 after attending a defensive driving course.
