You know, for how rare the 1M is, the prices aren't dramatically more than they were when they were new. Considering there were about half as many made for the US as there were 2002 turbos for the world, I'm afraid they haven't really started to appreciate as much as they will in the future. A 2002 turbo has less than half the power of the 1M, is roughly the same size, and I can tell you which one is the most fun to drive. No, I'm not going to get one, either. Missed my chance when I gave my allocation to a customer. If the only way to keep their value is not to drive them, I'll just stick to my 128i Msport stick!

I'm thinking M340i Touring with iDrive 7 but not sure.

My first and likely only BMW with the subscriptions in newer models.

The 3 series drives like it's quite heavy, hollow sound system, pogo stick rear end (they must have put X5 springs in the rear!), dead but chunky steering wheel, and you could not option in driver lumbar support in a car that costs 20 times (yes 20 times!) what I paid for the Nissan Leaf. As it wasn't exactly cheap I'm hoping with the way I treat it, it will last forever!

My other car, the Nissan Leaf; it drives way better than the BMW in town. Instant power, nimble, easy to turn/park ... but BMW for long distance.

I have to agree. We owned Audi Q5 until it got stolen when we were living in LA around the time of the riots. When we needed a car again we test drove the Q8 and Range Rover equivalents and were hooked on the X5 straight away. I don't think you can beat the BMW in it's class/price point

Well, my current may not tick off any of the list; but my 21 G29 M40 would be a keeper. It is currently a production unicorn as not many on the road.

Go with a 640i xDrive Gran Coupe. The handling and fun factor isn't the highest by BMW standards but for a daily it will provide plenty of luxury and comfort, plus looks gorgeous, easily the best looking BMW after the late 90's E-Chassis vehicles. Going for xDrive also gets you Hydraulic steering I believe (if I remember for the F10 they couldn't package EPS with xDrive?) and the N55 engine will be much more reliable than the N63 engine which is a big gamble long-term.

G01 X3 M40i is a good choice but imo the seats are very uncomfortable and you already have a fun car so I'd get something with more luxuries.

G05 X5 is probably my runner up to the 6er.

I love the look of the Q8 so much and it drives real nice too but yeah I think BMW is in a league of its own in the SUV game right now.

So did we, but my wife didn't like that you couldn't see out of the rear as easily as the X5. We also prefered the X5 driving as it felt more engaging than the Audi. It's a shame because of agree from an exterior perspective the Audi is the better looking car.

That's with the Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT). The article also says, "on the subject of options, the twin-clutch automatic costs $2900. The standard gearbox is free. Our advice: Be cheap. Take the free stuff." Do the math. You maybe right nowadays though because that article is from 2016.

Modern as less than 10 years old? If not my 03 E85 Z4 isn’t going anywhere. Had already for 11 years and is promised to our boy when he starts driving in 9ish years. Have an e86 already for a year now so keeping that for when he takes over the 85.

I keep wondering about a Z4 if the M40i gets a manual. We talk around here about how the upcoming M2 will be the last ICE car from BMW with a stick... it may actually have a mate. One that, while it won't perform as highly on paper, will be smaller and lighter...
I had a shot at a black 1m for msrp way way back in the day and said no because of a lack of moonroof!

Oh boy…

My past 2 M cars were both zero down MSD leases as I went in with zero interest in keeping them
The Zupra is a keeper though......as I'm never selling this thing......and gasp.....I put money down on the loan 🤣

2020 X3 or X4 m40i

Say no more, this one!

It’s an SUV, no an SAV, no it’s a sedan, no a crossover, it’s fast but comfy like an S class merc with the M adaptive suspension and those m sport seats, the exhaust rumbles and mellows, it’s quiet inside, got the panoramic sunroof too . . . 2020 X4 m40i.

Get a used one, cheap fun here! Talking from experience!

If I can find a cherry E46 M3 in Alpine White with Red interior.. I'd snatch it up and call it a day!

Not sure if it counts as a modern BMW, but the vintage guys say it is too new to join their ranks.

The e92 M3 (2008-2013) checks many boxes toward becoming a classic:
1. Last M3 Coupe
2. Last naturally aspired BMW
3. The only 3 series to be powered by V-8
4. 8,400 rpm redline

So much this. I still prefer my E93 M3 6spd over my F13 M6 6spd despite the dramatic performance difference. Nothing beats the sound of eight cylinders and 8400 rpm bouncing off the walls through a tunnel.

Tough question OP. Frankly any BMW in the last 20 years that you like IMO. Sure some models will have specific maintenance issues to look up on but they are pretty much all like this. Especially if you really want a BMW.

2010 328i xDrive with 105000 miles. Well maintained with the usual suspects; OFHG, oil pan gasket and valve cover gasket done. Water pump is the next project. Will be a pain in the ass with xDrive. Currently my winter car. Now if only my 2023 M4C on order comes with hydraulic steering......
