I suspect the dealership tech drove my car unnecessarily hard and far
Below is an image from my tracker system on my M5 Competition that was in for an engine problem. Technician out for a test drive... What would you do? Oh and by the way the speed limit on that road is 40 mph. The car still has an engine issue and now a steering problem.
Am I over reacting? |

You to Service: My car has an engine problem and steering problem but don't drive it over the speed limit when trying to diagnosis the issue.
To answer your question. Yes. BTW, my M2C seems to have the same problem with posted speed limits |

They may have to drive it hard to detect an issue. Don't go in there screaming obscenities. Ask them what they do on test drives and if what they say doesn't match what they did, milk them for a discount by threatening to file a complaint

i learned a long time ago; if you want to treat your car like a diamond stone; only you can drive it; on private road(with no debris) and do all the maintenance yourself.
not trying to be hard; but everytime i go to the dealer some shit happens. but whatever; not worth my energy. |

So there is an engine problem and you want them to keep it below 40 mph? It's a production car, not a museum piece. It's going to be fine.

I had a transmission problem with my z4 3.0si coupe and told them to drive it harder. They never would haha. This is why I go to Indy shops, their reputation is more on the line. I understand yours is under warranty so your hands are tied. I would be changing dealers if your area has another one and file a complaint. That is unless they felt it necessary to diagnose, but I don't see why you would need to...

In my experience, the dealerships don't care about complaints. It took me about 2 weeks to get in for a service appointment. They don't care if you take your business elsewhere, especially for warranty work.
I'd agree that a good indy shop would have more accountability. |

Wouldn't be pissed at the tech.Would be more pissed that "I" just singed a contract for 100k and having to deal with some BS from the factory. You are pissed because you feel like the tech is abusing your brand new baby. Fact of the matter is, you brought the car in for engine trouble and maybe the tech is trying to replicate what you have complaints about. 90mph is a stroll in the park for any M car let alone an M5 comp pack. Let them sort out the issues so that you can crank it out to your hearts desire. Factory warranty is there, hopefully it is not a serious issue and can be diagnosed and resolved. Don't get me wrong, I know exactly where your frustration comes from. But remember, this tech would not have to be driving your car if your M was in tip top shape from the factory. I would be more upset at BMW than a tech speeding in your M in a 40 zone. Really hope your can get this resolved!! (The issues you brought your M in for and not the tech speeding) Let it go. These things are rockets on wheels, 90 is a casual stroll down the expressway, freeway, autobahn, autostrada..what ever you want to call it. 90 is a 4th gear stroll out of your 7. If he took it to a buck fifity+, yeah i'd be pissed.
I re-read the thread, and yeah, id be F'in pissed off about the damaged wheel. Get your compensation for that. Last edited by Yessir; 09-19-2019 at 07:55 PM.. |

Last time I had my car serviced, I did manage to see one of the technicians take out the car for stroll, and he appeared to have taken it up to at least 75mph on a straightway. Initially felt pissed, but got over it.
I'd be concerned if I brought it in for one issue, and ended up with another.

Truth. When I was picking up my car from the dealership a month ago the tech was revving the engine after he parked it. I kind of chuckled though as I hope the farting coming from the exhaust gave him as much joy as it does me.

Whenever I've test driven a car at the local dealership, the sales manager hasn't batted an eye when I broke 100 mph.
I got the first F32 with a B58 and MPPSK that they had ever received. The sales manager was on vacation when I took delivery, so I stopped by a few weeks later to let him drive it. He babied it at first... until I told him it was payback time for the times I'd taken him for a ride. |
