Photo: Inside Scoop of Upcoming 1-series GT (FWD)
BIMMERPOST NEWS Inside Scoop Photo of Upcoming 1-series GT This image (via GCF) is said to be a close approximation on the looks of the upcoming front-wheel-drive BMW 1-series Gran Turismo (GT). The 1-series GT will be the next Gran Turismo model in the BMW lineup following the 5-series GT and preceding the next generation 3-series Gran Turismo model. The 1 series GT is a mixture of a 5 door hatch and a touring shape. Rear legroom is almost on par with the 5-series sedan.

Seems to close to the European hatch version. I wonder if the extra rear leg room is coming from a longer wheelbase?

It's size fools you but inside you have legroom on a par with a 5er.
Yes it is one of the first wave of FWD BMW's and that legroom is made possible by removing the transmission tunnel and the RWD drivetrain freeing up space for the interior. Seems a UK publication have got an inside scoop on the looks of the BMW 1er Gran Turismo. Following in the footsteps of the 5er Gran Turismo and the 3er Gran Turismo. Although Progressive Activity Sedan/Coupe makes way for Compact Activity Tourer. What you see here is how the car will look offering a mixture of 5dr hatch and Touring. Leg room in the rear is almost on par with the 5er Sedan. As previewed in the Front Wheel Drive report. BMW 1er Gran Turismo and BMW 1er Family Activity Sport Tourer are purely answers to the much demanded compact BMW that must be spacious and flexible like an MPV Concept. Although you are not getting a typical MPV come-van shape , you are getting something that effectively could rewrite the rules in what an MPV has to look like. Without sacrifice to flexibility. Given the importantance of three segments the UKL/CITY , Premium Compact and Premium Entry for growth. BMW see the need to offer customers within these segments desirable products not the same old concept but with a BMW badge. The small MPV segment which is a very high priority in European markets is expected to increase by about 65% by 2015.

It's an Audi A3. They sell a lot of those, so why shouldn't BMW have a version. I don't want one, but I also don't want a X6 or 5GT, but they still made them.

I thought the FWD wasn't going to trickle into the 1er--I thought that's what the "i" designation was for? I liked the idea, and picture surprisingly, until I read that...if I want a 5 door FWD car this size, I will save at least 5 grand and get a GTI...

Wow, time to switch to Ford (GT500 or Boss 302). I don't want to even say I'm a part of that series of vehicles.
They should name it the 0 series, because it signifies the complete loss of BMW. |

Strange why BMW doesn't see the need to offer me an extreme light weight 2 seater 6 inline screame with BMW badge, not Porsche badge! Oh, because I am the only one that wants this.

Thank you BMW, for completely disregarding the customer base that built you and defended your performance, just to potentially fatten your wallets by selling mainstream junk.
Porsche is now in a league of it's own, and above this mess. |

Quote:
Independence just does not flow through the companies philosophy but it is present in everything BMW puts it's ideas to. innovation , marketing. BMW are the market leader in reduction of vehicle emissions. BMW is the worlds no1 Premium manufacturer. BMW is the segment leader in nearly every segment it is present in. BMW showcase an individuality in product and design independence. But most importantly BMW connect with the enthusiast driver whilst others try and fail. As I have mentioned before the key segments to look for growth is the UKL/CITY/MINI , Premium Compact and Premium Entry. BMW have invested to make sure that their products in these segments are not only individual but also desirable. Within these segments are all-important sectors which BMW is not present in. By aligning BMW with MINI the two can co-exist and become cost-effective to introduce a choice of variants across the two brands. By the end of this decade - the combined MINI and BMW FWD series are projected to show sales of 800,000 units helping BMW meet it's 2 million units in 2020. The GT is BMW's answer to the large slice of the MPV segment in europe where the passenger is more important. BMW did not want a Van with an all-round glasshouse they wanted something that offers a spacious interior and great flexibility but in a car-like dynamic shape. A car that will offer mainstream volume competitors a very difficult time in the market. Especially for customers who want a more premium choice when choosing a car of this type.

So, when did BMW get bought out by Mazda? I must have missed it.
