Question 2018 BMW 120D Oxygen Sensor Fault

Hi there,
Just looking for some ideas on what would have caused this?

I had owned my used 2018 120d for three hours and the emissions amber light came up on the car. It is all under warranty with BMW so not an issue. But the dealership got back to me today saying they have identified the fault and it was a faulty oxygen sensor.

Does anyone have any ideas on why on earth a part like this would fail so early on?
The car has done 12k.

Just wondering if the previous owner has hammered it all the time, or if it is just a genuine worn part?
