f20 irritating noise from rear suspension area
Does anyone have problem with annoying bumping noise which is coming from rear suspension area when you are driving on slightly bumpy roads? I took the car to bmw garage, but they found nothing. Any idea, solution?

Hey. maybe you've got some shit or something from the muddy winter roads in the suspension or rear wheels. Try to wash thoroughly with high pressure washer.

BMW is working on this problem, but there isn't a final solution yet. You can have a look at this thread (it's in german, but you could run it through Google Translator): http://www.1erforum.de/der-neue-1er-...ich-99503.html I hope my english isn't too bad. |

Hi, problem has been solved, i put on summer 17 inch wheels (225/45/17) last weekend and suddenly the noise disappeared. Quite interesting. Winter wheels are 16 inch (205/55/16).

Guys, it's the knocking sound of the rear seats against the pivot holder. Normally it happens more often if you have someone seated at the back.
Solution to that is to tape the "U" catch with thick velcro tapes so that the seats does't "slide" around bends or humps. Time needed is less than 5 mins. Don't waste your time in the service centre. |

I had this sound as well. I went to the dealer, one of the machanics made a test drive with me and agreed that this sound was not OK. I could pick up my car at the end of the day again. Issue solved: new rear shock absorbers were placed. Since then I have not heard this noise anymore.

I brought my car to the BMW service centre in Hong Kong 3 times already and they couldn't figure out where the problem lies. |

Good that it works for you. Of course I can't say that all the rear noise are from the same source but this is one known noise that I have discovered.
