Thanks for posting.
Honestly, I have no idea what color the E34 M5 convertible is. I always thought it was Diamond Black, but it does appear purplish on some photos.

As for the production E34 M5, there were only 4 them in Techno Violet. Three sedans and one touring.
I asked Dackelone and he confirmed Techno Violet for the one off Convertible and some M5 wagons!

I love it mostly because my Dad had a vert in that colour but I also like purples too!

Cheers!

Definitely possible. All the photos that were posted of that car were taken with some weird lighting so I wouldn't know.

He is wrong about this one though. There is only one Techno Violet M5 touring. It was built for the 1994 Essen Motorshow.

Dackelone are you confusing Daytona Blue with Techno Violet?

Monaco blue was offered on the Z4M from 2006 to 2008. Named after the Monaco Grand Prix I would assume.

Very cool. Definitely some great trivia here that would stump some BMW fanatics.

Thanks for pointing it out. I actually missed that it was available on the E85/E86 M. Not only that, it was available on the E6x M5 and E6x M6. However, it is still not an M color. It actually appeared first on the E46 about a year before M Coupe/Roadster went into production. Actually the earliest case of Monaco Blue that I know of is the pre-production E90 that was built in July 2004.

Great post. I'm currently going round and round in circles deciding on an ind colour for a new m4 zcp.
Keep coming back to San Marino blue.

Spent most of the evening looking at lambo, Ferrari, Aston Martin colours etc for inspiration.

I want something unique after owning a mineral white m4 for the past two years.

Depends on your definition of unique. For an Individual, it's a pretty common color at this point. It's a very nice color though, so no surprises there.

Yeah that's my issue. I love it but want something special and I'm seeing quite a few around. I've got until Feb to decide. It's a painful process ha ha

Sorry MSCD It was late when I read your PM... I thought you meant a M5 wagon that I saw at the BMW Museum for the Bonhams auction back in 2011...

I thought it was Techno Violet... but now I see the car was a black color...

Although I think I have seen a TV M5 wagon.... just not sure where or when. IDK.

SickFinga I do remember seeing a DV e34M5 somewhere. Could have been up at Essen at the BMW Classic display when they invite BMW Club member cars to come. I remember someone telling me how BMW did built a handful of these e35M5 Tourings. I think something less then 100 cars. Maybe less than 30. I just remember very, very few M5 wagins were built.

I also remember seeing an e34 cabrio at the BMW Museum(and maybe at the old BMW Classic location)... that car was a one off(well...I was told one of two actually). The rear doors were welded up. I found two pics on the interwebs...

And the only 8er Cabrio made... as a concept car for the BMW board.... but the car would have been too expensive so it was never approved.

I thought I would throw this link out... some cool cars at BMW Classic's old location. Now the building has been torn down and is a new modern parkhaus for BMW test cars! lol

Would like to compare Brand Hatch Grey vs Dravit Grey for the F91/F92.

I really want to see Sakhir Orange next to Motegi. I think they look like they might be very close together.

Monaco Blue wasn’t an M color. It was available first to non-M cars?

I'm not sure why BMW reused Lime Rock again but called it grey. I still associate it with Fire Orange.

Lime Rock is a weird case. It is a special request color and not considered standard for some reason. It really stands out from all the other colors listed. I really not sure why. Might be a good idea to add it with a footnote?

BMW didn't "reuse it"

BMW M3 Lime Rock Edition came in Fire Orange color
BMW M3 CS came in Lime Rock Grey metallic color

One is the name of a color, another is a name of a special edition
