mmm the bumper is kind of weird....

Why does the car have to look retro?
You can always buy a Mustang if you want retro....

No, it's purely a render, by chopping up an F20 1 series.

I am just literally off a plane. But here is another render of the proposed 2er.
although the headlights are similar to something that can be seen on the 4er Coupe, Cabrio and Gran Coupe.

Oh my gosh, not a nice render to say the least...

Btw, last friday I saw the new F20 in flesh: not so bad after all.
Just forget the urban and sport stuff...

That^ is the same front end & headlight scheme, that is on the retarded 1 series hatch.

How does it share any design cues from this (?):

Skip the wide kidney grills and go with the more vertical ones as seen here^. Also, in this illustration, the front end is canted like the old 6 series.

In this latest rendering you've just provided, there is no characteristics of anything that says BMW 2002. I for one love the clam-shell hood and ROUND headlights & the fact that the character line from the back goes strait to the front corner.
You do realise that that render was not the 2er? It was Autobilds interpretation of what a Hommage BMW CS could look like?
Nothing to do with the 2er.

That is VERY UNFORTUNATE, and if the 2er is going to be ugly, I will be looking elsewhere.

+1. Total Fail.

I'm becoming more convinced that BMW are rapidly losing their way. Very sad.

Bland and boring. When you try to please everyone with a generic and uncontroversial design, you end up pleasing no one.

BMW is quickly and quietly becoming the new Lexus, sacrificing everything that once set them apart to try and cash in.

I wonder what the new red 2er coupe would look like if the kidney grilles were not all-chrome.

Time to bump this up and start talking about it again.

It is now my only hope of staying with BMW after reading about new 3 redesign.

How do you know you won't like the F32? It won't share a single exterior part with the F30.

bigger, only 88 pounds lighter, complex electronic chassis, so my first reaction was no,

with interest in the redesigned Cayman, BMW M2, and maybe the C7

One of the guys from my local dealer told me that the F22 coupe will share a very similar headlight design to the F20 hatch. Maybe thats because I was test driving an E82 coupe at the time.

Ugh. I was really hoping the M2 would actually improve on the 1m's looks. After looking at most of these renders, I'd rather say with my e90! I know it's too early to tell anything, but man I hope they realize how ugly that front is.

After much thought, I need the new 2 coupe to be a knockout both in dynamics and looks.

I have started looking elsewhere for a smaller, lighter, less complex, tossable car. So unless the 2 is a killer..............

1. Subaru BRZ Car and Driver calls it a game changer
http://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2070

2. Redesigned VW GTI/ Redesigned A3

3. Redesigned Nissan Z. http://www.roadandtrack.com/future-cars/2013-nissan-z
