I'm looking to do a little upgrade to the stock intercooler of the N13B16 engine, but not looking for an aftermarket one that costs 600-900 Euros.

The M135i stock intercooler is available for much less, and used ones are widely available when their owner get upgraded ones.

From what I've looked up, the specs are the same between the M135i and 116i intercooler, but it is thicker (20-30%). Inlet and outlet pipes are also the same diameter.

Has anyone done such an upgrade from the 1.6L engine? If so, any significant improvements or disadvantages (excessive pressure drop)?

I know the Audi A4/5 3.0 TD intercooler was a common upgrade for B8 1.8T and 2.0T guys, so I don't see why the M135i won't be a decent upgrade for the 116/118i

Do you have the hot climate version? if not i think you try that! The 125i intercooler may be sufficient for what you need! i would had also upgrade the oil cooler with the 118i ones since they are different! From there on try ACS intercooler no extra mounting items!
