Should I buy this 2007 335i for $6k?

Hey guys I have a question and need some of your opinion.
I am looking at a 2007 BMW 335i e90 6 speed manual. Has 280k on it , replaced valve cover gasket, turbos , upgraded to tk4 turbos , new water pump and thermostat , new oil pan gaskets . The car has stage 2 tune . Runs drives great he says , hs owned for 2 years . Cars looks to be in good condition rust free. Has new rear tires. He asking 6000$ for it. Is that a reasonable price for a car with this mileage and the work done?

Thanks 👍

I wouldn't touch it. Average value is $3500. High is $5000.

Are you buying it for a project/hobby that you will enjoy wrenching and buying parts/mods for, and most importantly you have another car to daily? Then yes.

Are you buying it for dependable transportation to get you to work every day? Then no.

Also, negotiate the price down if 1 is your answer.

If that's in loonies it's approx 30% more than USD so it would really be $4200 USD which is cheap either way.

Also likely 280kkms not miles.. still high but as long as the car is in good shape that's what matters more.

OPG, turbos and water pump are probably the biggest, suspension should have been done too hopefully.

The car is 5k Canadian , suspension he says been done last summer manga round 10k ago ball joints , etc . He says drives very good . He did all the work himself turbis wtaerpump , valve cover gasket etc. And it's in 280xxx kms . Not sure I've always wanted a 335i and this one looks like he took care of it. He's a mechanic . And the + side is he has all receipts .

I've owned a 06 330i with 290xxx kms on it and I've had only need to replace starter thts and I did that myself (pain in the a$$ lol) and in one year I only drove 20xxx kms on it , so I don't drive much , usally take my truck to work (good ole Duramax )

Its going to be hard to find help with repairs for the custom parts. If you ask for help with those specs not many (or any) are running them, so your knowledge base is limited. If it has a custom tune that's a whole other head ache and people that deal with custom turbos/tunes in the knowledge keep these things to themselves.

BMW are already problem children but now the owner added the x factor that most (if any) cant help. You have to remember that when he built the car he went thru all the trouble shooting that comes along with it. So its buying someone else problem.

I would weight the above into the price, which is already way to high. $3800.00 CAD would be my max.

Just buy it and then post online about how you can't afford to fix it.

Honestly if you can't turn your own wrenches the N54 is not the engine for you.

If you can turn your wrenches you can make them fun and fast for small money.

"mechanic" is usually not a good thing; Enthusiast is a better word to look for.

280k km plus "upgraded" turbos isn't usually a good idea. IMO I'm sure there arn't many 6spd E9X in your area so Id hold off and try and source one from out west.

for reference: my father picked up an 07 335 6spd (W/lsd and M-sport bits) and 88k for 8K. I'm sure 6K should get you something i nbetween

I just recently bought a 2007 e92 auto with 92k miles that was 9/10 exterior and interior. Stock turbos, muffler delete and cobb AP. I got it for $6k USD. I knew it needed work. I set aside money within my budgeting. It needed suspension, injectors, has a tiny leak at the OFHG, had a broken head unit, and a few other odds and ends things. I spent another $4-5k on the things I wanted to get to make it where I wanted it to be. Its not all installed yet but it runs great so far. Of course this one in questions is very different and has a lot more miles and upgrades. My fear is about the upgrades. I have seen so many people upgrade cars to beat on them and abuse them. They have issues when you upgrade too much and don't know exactly what to do to fix. Why is he selling? Because of hidden issues? Because there is another project? Maybe everything is mint. The only reason I post is to give you a comparison.

So, heres the flipside...the car I replaced it with is a 2007 e90 manual with 170k miles. It needs work. Paint and body work. It needs a shifter bushing kit. Suspension is trash and needs replaced. Oil pan gasket is leaking. Other than that, it runs strong. The clutch is original and I have no idea how it is still grabbing and not slipping. The shifter just has play so I need to install the bushing kit. I had JB4 on it since 40k miles. Turbos were replaced under recall at 80k miles. interior is 7/10. Not terrible but needs some work. I am probably going to sell it for about $3500-4000 with a disclaimer that this person needs to be very handy with a wrench, understands BMW tax on parts, things need coded upon replacement etc. I had a friend that wanted to buy it. I told him I refuse to sell it for two reasons. First, I do not have the time or desire to wrench on all the things when there are issues, because there will be. Second, I will lose a friend over it and I'm not willing to do that. He doesn't own one tool and doesn't have resources to pay someone. Take everything I said how you want. If anything, maybe it just gives you some comparison to if you think this is worth it or not. Good luck with your decision and ask any questions you may have.
