BMW 114i N13 No power Gearbox?
Dear,
I recently acquired a beautifully richly executed 114i with an m package. Unfortunately, at the moment the performance cannot exactly be linked to m-sport. The car pulls just as it should after operating the clutch, every time regardless of the engine speed. This can also be seen in the sports display, after releasing the clutch, it pulls 180nm torque and then drops to 100nm with a shock and audible turbo pressure blowoff, which he seems to be limited to after operating the clutch again. after which this tune repeats itself. The car does not display any error codes in ista either. The car has also had new software and updates so it is no longer possible that the error code has been written away. There are some exceptions to the problem, in 6th gear I can release the accelerator pedal 9 times out of 10 after driving about 20 seconds with the limited 100nm, after which the original 180nm will be present again until the clutch is operated again. After releasing the accelerator, the shift indicator does not realize that the car is in its 6 position, it says shift up to its 6 while the car is already in it. Sporadically, this also happens in his 2 making it clear that the block is good and capable of delivering its power. When you drive with your foot on the clutch just before operating the clutch mechanism, the car has just its power in any gear. This is of course bad for the pressure lower so I only did this to check things. I suspect that the problem can be found around the clutch and gearbox. Does anyone have experience with this or possibly a solution? Sincerely, Colin Last edited by Collie98; 01-05-2021 at 09:05 AM.. |

I am thinking it can be the clutch pedal feedback that is wrong. If the pedal reports that the pedal is pushed in when it is not, I guess it would make sense that the power is muted. There must be some sort of pedal sensor. This sensor could be broken, miscalibrated or the cables to it could be damaged.
My guess is that the automatic start/stop mechanism is also acting up, as in not being able to stop the engine in neutral. |

No result unfortunatly. I'd have the BMW diagnostics tool ista and it says when I'd have power the clutch is opperated for 10% (the clutch sensor is capible of telling it is used 10% or above and 90% or above) so strange enough the car does notice the clutch is opperated when i'd get the power with my foot on the clutch pedal. |

Can it be the turbo valve is failing under pressure (and you release the burden with the clutch)?

The previous made weird clicking noises at random while stationary. That is fixed now. |

So it appears to be my gearbox is fine but my final drive (differential) might be wrong the 114I should have a ratio of 2,81 but mine appears to have 3,08 (counting and calculating after spinning the axle and tire by hand) the 3,08 is mounted on the 116i / 118i i'll dig down deeper in to this but this might be the solution. now i'm figuring out if i have to replace the diff either it is codable.

So the theory is that the car knows the ratios, and reacts when the engine and wheel speeds are not as expected? That is interesting. I have noticed that my 2016 118i knows which gear is selected, and matches engine speed by itself when I shift.

Little bit late but great you find the problem.
Do you got the old (116i) differential and want to sell ? I got a 114i chipped and want some more top speed... I live in Holland to |
