Navigation Business vs Professional? difference?

I was wondering what the difference between the business and professional navigation are? Also, if anyone has invested on these systems on the F20, how do you find it? is it any good?

As far as I know, Professional Nav comes with a wider screen and hard drive for storage.

The Navi pro is really good. In addition to a larger screen and hard drive I believe there are some navigation features you only get in the pro version, but I cannot confirm that.
Also if ordering Navi business you are excluded from some of the cool options in the F20 price list.

Is it worth the £1,500 price tag for navi professional? I couldn't justify it- I have a great sat nav on my iPhone... Perhaps I'll regret it

I will get the pro and its up to you if you need it ... I am a technical fetishist and i Love gadgets like the Apps feature and iPhone Integration ... But if you only need a normal nav without funky iPhone and multimedia stuff i think the Business nav is all you need

As in UK the Business is priced at £1500 and the Pro at £2000, i think for a £500 difference... it's better to take the Pro one.

But when we have a great sat nav on our phone (and it's not impossible that it is better than BMW one, even with the Pro one...), it's sometimes a little difficult to accept to pay £1500 or £2000

My point exactly- If I had 2k spare, I'd gladly pay it- however, I simply cannot justify £1500 or £2000 for navigation... Especially wen I can navigate my iPhone on the non iDrive system. Sure I don't get album art, but £1500/2000 for it? No thanks

In fact what we need is a video output on the phone (some phones have an hdmi output), and a video input on the car With the Pro satnav + the DVD-changer, it may be possible. With just the Business screen... I'm pretty sure it is still possible... but more difficult !

An example: http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384459 but I didn't understand which functions he obtained with this.

Oh thanks to all those that replied. And I have to say, the pro version with the bigger screen makes the interior look even more luxurious.

the manual refers to saving CD/DVDs to the car's hard drive. I'd assumed that was a standard item, but I'm guessing now that the hard drive is part of the nav pro package?
So a bit expensive just to save music.

Correct. The hard drive is also used for storing the optional annual updates of road maps and additional navigation features.
Whether this is a significant advantage or not is debatable.....

Hi Germo
Not sure which F20 model you are looking at in Aus
If the question is what to spend your money on when looking at a
116i or 118i (125i comes as M Sport).
1 M Sport package

2 HK system if you're into quality music (who isn't)

3 Xenons (comes with the LED rears)

4 Pro nav as it gives you all the items suggested by others and the black screen display as well.

All the rest of the options are what you like to have if you can afford it

BTW; BMW is dropping the 118i from Aussie line up later this year so you could push for a bargain 118i with extras for similar dollars as a 116i

This is something I was told upon picking up my car at the dealer.
Apparently, from now on map updates are no longer done through the DVD player but through the navigation antenna (from the satellite...)
I didn't believe them, but I'm just wondering now... especially about the cost.

That's how it ought to be.....
I asked my dealer two days ago about updates of the Navi pro. He told me they download the updates (there is an update every fall) directly to the cars hard drive. To do so you have to be authorized and you need a code. Which means that only the dealer can do it
Hence the price is hefty, around here they charge EUR 400 for it. So I have decided to do it only every second year.
So much for "Connected Drive"

Shameful. My dealer said updates are done through the satellite now as the previous updating system was very expensive (around 300€ here just for a software DVD) and people complained a lot. I just assumed the new updates would be cheaper and so I didn't ask any further. I don't know why, but I'm beginning to think otherwise...

You can get a 125i without M Sport. Also, where are you reading that 118i will be dropped this year? Is this from dealers? Don't believe a word they say (sometimes) as this is simply not true.

Just wanted to jump in as I have the Business Nav. Its a very good system, clear routing and great picture. I think it is worthwhile if you want integrated GPS. Much prefer this than having to plug in a TomTom every time. It also includes traffic and proposes alternatives. It is expensive though.

if you are spending money on business nav... just do yourself a favour and swallow the other £500

you will kick yourself for the life of the car for not doing so otherwise, it's far superior!

No torque gauges on business nav.

I had ordered the business, which is about £450 less than pro in the UK. Then decided I might as well get the black panel display for a measly 125 quid, but it's standard with pro so the difference between the two nav's is suddenly only about 300... So called the dealer and upgraded.

It's almost as though BMW had planned it all along somehow
