Ask M135i owners (not just everyone) if they are happy with the sound from their car, with active sound included. I bet more than half will give it thumbs up. |

All reviews I have seen of the car have praised the sound, so my verdict is that BMW has done it right.
I wonder if some of the comments from US forum users would be less negative if they could actually buy these cars. |

BMW is full of shit blaming the turbo. If they just made a proper exhaust for the car it would sound fine. I had to upgrade my previous 335 N54 to a bastuck to get it to sound good even with the windows UP!
This is lame.

But if BMW made the car like that, it would be too loud for most buyers (and their neighbours). Modern cars have to be rather silent on the outside.

From the videos i have to say it sounds awesome...what happens if you turn off the stereo?
Next thing you know some VW guy is going to install this and really pimp his ride....will this synthesizer plug into another car or an older 135's stereo?

When you drive at the limit with a helmet on, it is difficult to know the RPM if it is not loud enough. You certainly don't want to start looking at the instrument panel. You can't feel the RPM from a straight six. Maybe from an unbalanced four.

Although it's a simple implementation. It's not a straight forward install, the symposer takes data from the can bus and works out what to play depending on rpm, throttle position, engine load and vehicle speed. Cheers Lee |

Without meaning to offend anyone am I the only person here who thinks it's actually quite sad?
Why are they trying to make a car sound like something it isn't? As long as it sounds epic with the windows down then I'm happy - Even the Mini Cooper I used to drive sounded good with the windows down and full throttle. I'm test driving the M135i this week so I'm going to keep an open ear for this gizmo and pay careful attention to how the car sounds. |

Whilst I like the sound itself, the idea of a digitally generated noise makes me feel a little dirty - I would prefer that they spent the money on a sound cancelling setup to reduce the noise from the runflats instead.
I seem to recall that Jag implemented this some years ago.

Yes, the sound has been praised in the reviews, but how many of the reviewers knew it was being generated by a synthesizer? Would they still praise it if they knew much of the sound was emanating from the speakers instead of directly from the engine? I suspect that praise wouldn't be as high as it has been.

If professional reviewers thought it sounded great and couldn't tell it was coming from the speakers then the design tell have done a good job. Cheers Lee |

And lets not forget, this is adding to the sound, not making it totally.
