BMW 1 Series

I’ve recently brought a newish BMW 1 series from the main dealership it’s been absolutely brilliant until the cold weather really kicked in about a week ago….every time I start it from cold in the morning it’ll cut out within 15/20 seconds but once I start the engine again it’s absolutely fine….it always happens first thing in the morning no warning lights or anything on the dash/idrive it’s a 1 series f20 118i I’m running the car on shell V power I was wondering if perhaps the octane level is to high for that specific car ?seem silly but it’s a weird situation

No, it's not. See the manual, page 236. The car's official dynamics/consumption data was obtained using 98 petrol. Also, ain't it easy to try lower octane (Shell regular 95)? You should rather have your car checked (spark plugs? ).

The car has 28,000 on the clock and had the spark plugs changed at 24,000 by BMW It had a major service at the time, yeah I’m running V power 98 petrol at the moment but have been thinking of trying a tank of shell 95 to see if it makes any difference, I’ve booked it into the garage for Monday morning anyway but I’ve had no Warning lights or anything very bizarre

The fuel grade shouldn't make a difference. Probably a sensor or actuator / solenoid issue exacerbated by a colder start.

So I took my bmw into the main dealer no fault codes were stored checked the battery etc everything was fine, he said my software is outdated 2016 so he’s updated it to the latest firmware he said that may of been the issue and to keep an eye on it….would an out of date firmware really cause the car to stall?
