What a fucking JOKE. I don't care if 99.9999% of the sound is real and the rest is coming through the speakers, I'm still shaking my head in disgust at The Ultimate Amplifier Machine.

And don't give me that garbage about turbos making cars quiet. I'm around turbo 4 cylinder and 6 cylinder cars which can be just as loud as NA piston motors with rotaries being the loudest by far.

This. It's hilarious (read: extremely sad) seeing people discuss if they should upgrade their speakers to improve the engine noise of their car, I'll have a nice aftermarket exhaust system installed thanks. I am not one of those uppity purists, but when I start seeing things like raw engine noise being subsituted by artificially reproduced nonsense through the speakers I can't help but feel a little depressed. It's like those fake engine noise cds or cassettes you plug in or whatever that they sell to make your car sound like a v8, freaking ridiculous.

FIAT seems to manage without electronic trickery.

The Fiat price doesn't allow for such trickery.

I'm not surprised that the M135i has it since all the new ///Ms have them. Seems like Audi/VW and BMW are all doing this now. I dunno how I feel about this though, it's like your wife admitting that her boobs are fake (nice and plump) but still fake...

Glad my car doesn't have this 'fake' sound... Mine is full on engine and twin exhaust roar...

that and the fiat is a pile of steaming sh.ite! and its a fiat!

its not a fake noise, its a mic thru of the real engine noise not sure what people are complaining about.

Do you rip off your headphones or bin your speakers because the rolling stones aren't playing in your living room?

If the noise was manufactured I could understand some issues but its the real deal, and frankly it sounds marvellous

Neil.

Wow! That's a huge difference. Thanks for posting.

I can audibly hear the sound coming through in the F10 M5. It's pretty noticeable. I'm going to try unplugging and see the change, maybe I will post a vid too.

I couldn't hear the dump valve though in either VID.

On the other hand my M3 sounds marvelous at 8,700 RPM with the Akrapovic.

I suppose that when you wear a headset, Michael Jackson comes back to life to sing to you on demand?

The original noise from the engine was real. What you're hearing is fake. It's sad of BMW to do this.

i just checked The Partnumber from the module is the same number in the M5 / M6/ M135i..
if The Module is coded for a M5 and you Plug it in a M135i you might have a V8 sound in your M135i...
is there anybody who has both cars and could swap the Moduls?

I don't see the problem here. It sounds a lot better with the artificial improvement.
I tried to make some more fake sound in the 116i by tapping RPM through bluetooth OBD2 connection and an Android app hooked up to the stereo system, but it didn't work. I could get pretty much all signals except RPM.

The recording of the engine sound may be real, but playing that sound back over the audio system makes it artificial.

Yay, another reason NOT to buy a new BMW!

I'm gonna build myself a nice E30 or and E36, dammit. Or, maybe just buy a Cayman.
