Car drives better after 10,000kms - just in my head?

why does it feels like my M340i drives better after 10,000kms? (now 10,400)

it's like comfort mode is more responsive, sport mode not so jerky

i think it's all in my head but keen to hear any possible scientific explanations

You're more comfortable with it, don't have to think about button layout, know what to expect in regards to different road surfaces etc. Takes me about 1,000 miles

Many cars don't fully free up and perform at their best until over 10,000 miles. Some engineers suggest even more miles, for best efficiency and parts fully bedded and settled down.

If you take your car in for service they update the modules. Your DME has a new calibration which makes it feel more lively. No horsepower or torque gained, but throttle calibration makes it more responsive.
Not in your head unless you never took the car in for service. Then I’d blame different gas/weather.

Pretty much this...

Like Iron Man, I can tell you after 281,000kms/174,000miles, the car and I are ONE.
