I know a guy who can fix it. His dad is a TV repair man. LOL.

My rule of thumb has always been if the repair cost exceeds the value of the car then, no. However, it depends on how in love you are with said car and whether your wallet can handle it.
That looks like more than $3k of damage. The quote you had does not take into account any hidden damage. It's hard to say until the car is in pieces. The rear frame may need straightening. Any workshop won't tie themselves into a quote because you just never know. You could get lucky if you find what you need at a junkyard and DIY it or don't mind a different paint job. Man maths. If you have $4k burning a hole in your wallet and you cannot afford a new car then this might be economical for you to do. Or you cut your losses, keep your $4k and buy another $600 car. Personally I'd take the latter unless there was a deep emotional connection/history with the car. |

I still have it in front of the house lol. I really don't need to sell it or anything but it makes you think when you look at the insurance total percentage comparison. Say this car is worth around 6 grand, a 3k repair estimate is pretty darn close.
While I have this car and could use it as a second car and first car for my brother, realistically he's not going to be driving in like a year and spending this money on a car I don't need is pushing stuff a bit so either I manage to get someone that'll do a good enough job for cheap in the future or maybe I'll have it sit for a bit or sell it. Thing is a wrecked car is worth basically nothing if not for low mileage. |

Well we live in a townhome. Recently moved here and while the HOA hasn't said anything about the car they already gave the whole neighborhood a notice to not have cars parked on the sidewalk which is obviously what I'd do if I were to buy another civic. It all kind of piles up against the car being fixed really.
That total loss thing is pretty interesting because my 335i got totaled for a lot less damage being an 07 sport pretty much loaded with rear suspension damage, so this thing might have kicked the bucket too if insurance had got their hands on it. |

Insurance total losses and what random people do with damaged cars are often very different. Insurance company is looking at what it costs for a repair shop to put it back to close to perfect condition. Many people look at what it takes for them to DIY a car to usable condition and the numbers can be radically different.

Hey so I kinda completely forgot to update this.
Pretty much everyone here was right. I sold the civic for 1800 and bought an e46 328ci sport for 1500. 200 bucks in parts later the car is driving around pretty good. Supposedly says 49k miles but I doubt it either way I think I came out pretty well as what the Honda sold for is what I would have made in profit if I fixed it and sold it anyway. Here are some pics: |
